I had a bunch of 2nd gen f-bodies from 87 to 93.
Including two W72 optioned Y82's with hurst hatches. One showroom stock. One with a 70 yh 455.

A very safe option... late 90's mercedes wiring sort scares me.. I've seem more than one have all of the insulation start to fall apart all over all at once... I think its a florida thing... IDK.

Yeah Volvos are like bubble wrap... the safest cars out there on average.
A 1990-1998 S90 would be awesome, in a brick sort of way.

I have a 1987 Iroc Z 5-speed that I am going to be selling. It's located in Jacksonville.
Here is the perfect car idea and it's nothing like the others that have been suggested.
I had a truck as my first car, and loved it. GMT400 ('88-'98) is what I'd be looking for, especially as you're not in the rust belt.

The late 90s are scary, but the late 80s are fun!

The response has been amazing... and frankly things developed a little faster than I expected.
Right now we are planning a fly n drive to PA to pick this up from tb.
I hope it is entertaining.. (but not TOO entertaining).... we will update this thread in real time next weekend, and of course this will be the build and ownership thread if it all works out.
We are pretty excited.
We plan to fly and drive with no baggage.
I've never done a fly and drive.
Suggestions for things to pick up in PA for the return?

These things are actually driveable. Can be found for reasonable $$$$.
That said, if in your position I would be looking at the Miata as it is truly the answer to what he needs; A car that can do car stuff while still having project potential for years to come. There is a reason LEGO blocks are popular and fun; they are cheap, easy to learn and easy to expand and be creative with the options available. Don't discount the potential value of getting an automotive peer group tossed in for free. ( Most classic -car peers will be in their dotage) Getting a rare project car is like getting a solitary brick; possibilities are endless, but you are on your own.
Edit: Have you ever watched "Ellies Garage" on YouTube? One of the best "Working with your kid on classic cars video series out there. Working on an early Falcon. ( 4 seater Mustang if you will)
I absolutely get the Miata thing. I think they are cool but:

Hate to say it but Miata kinda violates the bar of soap rule they are round and common.
Convertibles are not desired so much as a project car by Jack but the 300zx has t-tops.
And honestly the number one factor is that tb has made Jack such an unbelievably great offer that there is no alternate universe where we don't do this.
And it all starts with a fly and drive adventure!

I'm gonna start packing up the extras shortly, there is a considerable value to some of it.
Also, wanted to publicly recommend Z1 Motorsports in GA as a great vendor. If they don't list it for the Z32, call them and they can prob get it and a lot of my maintenance purchases have been their own products. I was never close enough, but I hear their annual car show is real dope.

As for the packing list, a tire pressure Guage, nitrile gloves, a roll of Duct tape a quart of engine oil and some brake fluid. Paper towels never hurt either.
What a wonderful trip you'll have!! FWIW I would rather be going S out of Philly than N any day! Passing through NYC sucks!
