I think this project is hopelessly stalled and you should sell it to me

(Just kidding about it being stalled... not really kidding about wanting it.)

Ha! I have been going non stop on this thing for so long and the weather is nice now so things like kayaking and travelling have been getting some of my spare time. I am still motivated but just in a different direction for the time being.

Anybody local to Atlanta that wants to come by and give me ideas is welcome too though. Raze has come by a few times and lots of progress was made.

I am paying to have a tree removed this week so there goes a little more out of the car fund.

I'm sorry I haven't been back, I need to spend some time on those wiring diagrams, I have an idea on what might be causing the problem but I need some time to sit down and trace lines. I probably won't get a chance to help again until sometime in May, I've got 2 weekends i'm out of town for my little brother's bachelor party and then wedding and I really want to see if I can get the Fiat in fighting form to get it up to the Mitty (after 3 years of no-showing).

That being said I'm getting my gas bottle back soon so can you check on your welder and see if it can do gas? I can't remember which model yours was...

No problem sir. I'll be gone a lot of May and I'll be getting the 240Z running. June sometime maybe we can plan on doing some diagnosis and cajun food.

Speaking of the Mitty, I may be up there on the Friday and then a TDI meet (I've never been to one, should be interesting) on Saturday.

OOOH I haven't gotten mine yet. I saw the cover budget 328 and I wondered if the REAL budget Ferrari was in there. LOL

Thanks!

Side note I found an old BOV that I'm putting on this weekend since the stock plastic one is broken. (Vacuum nipple is gone)

I'm pretty useless when it comes to electrics, but I'm in Marietta and would love to see this project in the flesh!

you know. . . I really should be out in the garage block sanding. . . but instead i'm drinking coffee, listening to some tunes and reading this awesome project. I had just read all the naysaying about the subie exhaust note when one drove by outside my house with a light bov chirp. . . I always liked the subie burble and I think it will be a nice little elusion to whats really going on inside. . . like, people will hear it first, assume sti, then doubletake/break thier neck thinking "what the hell???" Love it man, keep it up. Also, congrats on the hot builds. . . I don't think many people even noticed mine. then again, it's not as interesting as this. lol

Curmudgeon wrote: In reply to Teh E36 M3: That's a Goodyear SAE 30R9 fuel injection bulk hose which I have bought it at AutoZone before. Sorry, I don't know of a way to adapt it to AN fittings. I used it on the Jensenator at the engine end of things because the stock 13B FI stuff was all set up for beaded hose slip on fittings, converting it to AN would have meant a whole bunch of brazing fittings etc. I can't see this hose being compatible with the common brass barbed fittings. Here's Goodyear's spec page on the stuff: http://www.goodyearep.com/ProductsDetail.aspx?id=5144 It looks like they quit with the blue liner, it's now black but the same basic stuff. There are brass swivel fittings out there which can be used with clamp on hose, but they are 45 degree flare and AN is 37 degree flare, so they are not compatible.

Used SAE30R9 hose on mine for the connections into the fuel tank/pump and at the front to connect to the Ford efi system. Russell, Fragola, Earl's, etc. all make aluminum barbed AN fittings -- just clamp the hose to the proper size barbed fitting and screw the other end on. Piece of cake. Recommend using a proper stainless 'smooth' band clamp for fuel line - not the typical multi-slot stuff that cuts into the line. So my supply and return is all -6AN aluminum hard line with -6 AN fittings with very short sections of 3/8" SAE30R9 FI hose on each end at the front and back of the car.

We're moving in 8 weeks and I'm in the thick of renovating the 'new' house. I love the sound of this project though - I'll drop you a line as soon as I have some availability to help wrench.

No problem, thanks for the kind words everybody. I'm going to be getting back on this thing soon, I just got pretty deep in a small to medium 240Z freshen up that I would love to get out of the way first.

Found out the Subaru key has a chip in it and that's why the Immobilizer isn't working. I could have taped the key to the ecu and had it working. So I either need that key or a new ecu that comes with a key. Man that sucks that it went with the clip after I sold it figuring in 97 they didn't use them. So its progress though. Thanks to Todd and Subarugears for the insight.

So if anybody spots a 97 jdm sti ecu with a key for sale let me know.

you might still try talking to the dealer, not sure, but they may still be able to interface with the immobilizer part of the ECU and reprogram it to a new key.

You think so even on a JDM 97 ecu?

Here are the pictures of it if anybody has one in their garage for sale.

From what I have seen it looks like they may still be able to access that. Basically, if you had one and got a new key they program it into the ecu.

Worst case, its no-joy due to the JDM differences. Just saying its worth trying rather than sourcing / purchasing another ecu.

As an Atlanta GRMer, I feel that it is my duty to go and check this car out, take part in some friendly smack talk, and possibly help wrench if I am deemed worthy.

Apparently though, everybody is moving at the same time. We just got into our first house purchase as well, so it'll be a few weekends before the honey-do list has been sufficiently shortened enough to go do car stuff up in Acworth.

Sending you a PM crankwalk...

Greetings! Based on a handshake, this project Fubaru is now mine. While the deal isn't totally done, I'm letting my triple black 1987 Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce go to take over this project. I'm really a Porsche guy (928 & 944) and have never tackled anything quite like this, but the good news is the hard work is done. Now its my turn to sink my hard earned $$ into this project. I'll continue the thread here & welcome all input. Thanks! Kevin
