Thanks folks
The headers, by far have been the most time consuming
Turbo's? Funny thing is, once I get this project running well etc.I will look to do a turbo set up. It may be years down the road, but is planned.
This fills me with happy. More than one person who has no idea how much work is required has suggested this very thing for my own E34 wagon.

Looks great!
Can you tell us more about the above pic? It looks like wooden dowel sections?
I made those devices so that I could judge if I had enough space to run the headers down past the firewall, steering box, steering shaft and bellhousing. The allowed me to really see the space, and judge how the header pipes should curve.
They are two inch dowels hot glued to hanger wire. They worked well.
I don't think I could have worked such a tight space without them for reference.

I've never seen that before - but it's genius.
How's the electronics part of the conversion going to go? I contemplated an older (e39) BMW for a project/driver a while back, but the prospect of aging German electronics scared me off more than the mechanical bits.
Thanks. Electronics:Are stand alone. Meaning the engine is controls by its own electronics and the car by its own. The rest of the car's electronics are doing their thing like a stock. They are only a few place of overlap like the ac, and tach. I may still even have cruise control. Before I took the car apart I spent quite a bit of time matching the wires of the car's wiring for to the stand-alone harness. Lots of wiring diagrams, Helm's manuals, Bentley, diagram that came with my stand alone fuse/relay box.
passenger-side header. I am going to change the runner that is collecting at a strange angle. Got tired and kept going, should have stopped...gotta know when to call it a day
singleslammer wrote: Sweet build! Do you think you would gage had room for off the shelf shorty headers?
That is a good question. The space between the large steering box, engine, firewall and bellhousing were super tight with complex turns. So any off-the-shelf solutions would have taken modification (and I wanted to do better than exhaust manifolds -- which would have taken modification). Since this is a "bargain"-build, I could not see buying something relatively expensive and chopping them up -- then mostly likely not having all the lengths and bends that I need to make it work. I actually purchase the weld up header kit for $89...you could not beat the price. Raw bends and lengths would have cost more.
The most time consuming part of the project were getting the headers to fit the driver's side
