I would love for things to go like that. Lol. This is our first front wheel drive car. It will be a learning curve.

Should be fast.

Are you going to leave the intake exposed, or widen the factory power bulge in the hood to cover?

In reply to newrider3 :

The ultimate plan is to widen the factory power bulge. We will likely run it without a hood for the first couple times.

I take it you used the stock hinges and door latches?  As a road racer I put "pins" into the rocker panel and then slides into the front and back as door latches.
The "pins" are simply 1/2 in tubes. As are the slides. They go into slightly larger tubes with bolts welded as handles that go into a notch

On the Jaguars I built I think the total weight was less than a 1/2 pound. ( sorry never weighed it) but a lot less than stock .
In retrospect looking at your work I should have taken a few minutes to put the bolts in my lathe and rounded the head off.

Yeah. Factory hinges. We have done removable doors on other builds to make it easier to load in the trailer. Decided not to on this one. It's a little car.

One trick I do is dimple the place where the pins go in. That way I'm not fiddling around trying to locate the holes.

What have you guys decided on for rear suspension? Something adjustable or more of a stock setup?

If I can offer one bit of advice from my FWD drag experience (in a much heavier, less powerful car, on street tires), rearward weight transfer hurts the 60', the overall time and causes wheel spin.

I was able to shove a pair of 'Coil Spring spacers for towing':

They go in the spring to reduce 'squat' (weight transfer) under load.

And that was enough to help with 60' times fractionally, and greatly my reduced wheel spin (street tires, YMMV) for what I paid for them ($10 CAD each if I remember correctly) and bumped up my MPH. I'd need to dig out old time slips but they are likely faded by now as I was experimenting with this years ago now.

The other option is 'limiting straps' as a couple of the SRT4's locally would run. A strap attached to the lower front suspension and to the body to limit the amount of travel in the suspension to keep the front wheels from coming 'unloaded' and spinning. The guy that bought the kit available liked it and it helped immensely fix his wheel spin issues.

I am sure you will be able to develop a more elegant way to achieve the same effect at a lower budget hit based on your previous work.

Miata shock and spring, home built straight axle, track locator made from a load shift bar, 4 parallel links from flea market.

How are you providing for toe adjustment?  Shims at the wheel hubs?

The car is wonderful! I can't wait to see it at the Challenge. It looks like you might need to corner like the Classic Mini Auto Slalom cars. Big question is will it stoppie?

We anticipated that. There is an anchor for weights to be added. But Calvin can pick the back end up by himself.

PACC look y'all,  this mash up reminds me of all those rice burners whose names elude me (late 90's early 2000's)running ginormous boost(25+psi) on those 4cyl honda's with 8 inch wide slicks running these kinda the numbers....or maybe close ..either way I couldn't grasp how these rascals could possibly hook......oh wait a minute I do recall front ballast being utilized frequently....hey when's the inaugural shake down ...I've a trip to Pat G's part of the world sometime this late spring early summer?

We are 330 miles east of Pat's.  We'll be over 15 psi and under 25 psi. It should make some grunt.

This is my favorite build right now. Can't wait to see it in person this October. That's absurd that you can lift the rear axle off the ground by hand!

Super fun night. Took a seized shifter that was a discarded unit thrown into a pile of stuff that we hauled home from a fellow car crafter after he had a garage purge effort. Tore it apart. Removed the dirt and rust. Converted it from a 3 speed shifter to a 4 speed shifter, lightened it by 1#,  greased and reassembled.
