I probably need to start my own build thread, but that's a thread for another time. That being said, what's the word on good suspension setups? I bought my car with tokico blues and... some sort of lowering spring. They're okay-ish. Certainly better than my EK that I bought with skunk2 suspension parts.
you wanna talk to Chris at Redshift Motorsports (although you probably already know about him). these cars are his jam.
i haven't followed enough of your posts to know what you want to do with the car but if you want a little bit lower with good travel and still have the car handle well as a daily, i've been very satisfied with my Koni STR.T and Tein H-Tech combo. just high enough still that i can get a jack under the front crossmember and/or get up steep driveways.
the Redshift Competition Coilovers seem to be a pretty sweet combo - BC Racing shock body with Bilstein adjustable internals and whatever springs you want for under 2 grand.
New Mirror arrived today.
Ordered a 300mm Broadway Mirror like what Scotty has. If not identical. Cheap and the extended field of vision will be great on track!
Today was a good day out at mineral wells. I haven't gotten new tires mounted since i fully sent the old RE71's to their death so i co drove with my buddies. SSC FR-S and DS spec Civic Type R.
Type R is so legit. It's the same addictive power of my focus with an even wider powerband. It would only do 2 angry laps with my buddy before it got hot and unhappy. But the result was nearly FTD out of the S2000's and the FRS there. Only slower than a 5th gen prelude on 285 hoosiers making 350hp. My buddy ran a 1:15.0 in the CTR and I ran a 1:18.5 in the FR-S. the CTR has a 10mph higher speed before braking at the end of the 1/4 mile back straight. Took hazmat out for a quick 2 lap run and nearly chunked an outside front DD tire from loading it a little bit. It was suuuuper uphappy about the 2 laps which were pushing a bit but not terrible. 4.5 year old Hankook Ventus V12.. Mazduece has some old RS4's from the accord in my size which I'll mount up next on the accord wheels sitting in the garage. New rearview mirror is great. Rear visibility is amazing now, it's taking some getting used to. But I like it a lot.
Well i got a whole spare stock exhaust with a shiny stock exhaust tip on it.
Figured I'd make one less part look like crap and remove the old one off hazmat and put the nicer one on the car.
Well.. Get underneath and the one bolt that holds it on is rusted. No surprise. Start to apply a little force with my smallest ratchet.
POP
Whoops.. So the little bolt sheared almost instantly...
Meh.. Weight savings...
I'll just leave it off now.
Briefly put the car up on the ramps tonight to confirm what I've been suspecting.
When i did the control arm install the sway bar links were very rusty and I used a LOT of heat to get them to loosen up. Like smoke pouring from their insides.
Autozone wanted way too much for new links and so i said I knew i'd need them in the future and i'd deal with it when it became an issue..
Well... 2500 miles later.. They're becoming an issue. I'm hearing the click/pop from time to time and so I'm going to have to bite the bullet soon. I got under and confirmed the passenger side one now has play I can feel.
While i had the car up I looked at the driver fog light and popped it out to look into brake ducting routing.
it pops out once the two screws that are readily visible are removed... easy! This photo is from the backside. Bottom and top holes in the photo are the two screws that attach this assembly to the bumper. Other screws hold the fog light into this mounting assembly.
And once the light was out.. I learned how it comes apart.. And that the fog lights can be aimed? Cause that's what the screw and spring combo and the hinge across from them indicate... too cool!
Lots of small things on this car.
This is the hole once it's out
Thats the big intake box in between me and the fender liner preventing access directly through.. So hmmm.. More investigating to come.
Helloooooo! Honda engineers...
Can you make a car that you don't have to take completely apart to replace wear/tear items?
(Asking for a friend)

The nature of a compact car with a decent size motor and lots of interior space motor is that all the rest of the space comes at a premium. it's the nature of the beast.
some stuff can be a pain, but this car has a bunch of features the Traccord does not and it comes in at the same curb weight.
I'm willing to take the tradeoffs to get all the benefits of this car.

I've worked on a PT Cruiser and a 3100 powered Malibu before. I'm sure the Civic is fine compared to those.
In reply to Daylan C :
Oh lord, the PT and the Intrepid with their battery inside a fender well...
In reply to spacecadet :
Isn't the Solstice like that too? I saw a picture of one with no front bodywork once. Looked like removing the fender was the only way to get to the battery.
In reply to spacecadet :
I just remembered my Bravada. My favorite method of doing spark plugs on that one was taking the front wheels off and going in through the inner fender.

It is.
Honda did have the sense to make the consumables easy to get to which this little thread pointed out pretty well. Everything on the motor is tight. But I haven't found anything terribly bad.

What little I've worked on Hondas, the Koreans make them look like a domestic mostly. There are always exceptions to the rule, but I've yet to have one that sucked to work on (minus the issues with rust the midwest gives us).

I have a TSX one if you want. It's just holding pens and markers in the garage right now.

I'll say yes and If you tell me a beer from Texas you'd like I can probably persuade Mazdeuce to bring it with him to the challenge and trade you beer for the muffler tip. I might use it the way you are if i can't/ don't put it on the car..lol.
Today has been extremely productive. Which is kinda funny cause I slept in till 11 by accident.
Went off to the junkyard today with 2 things on my mind to find. Proper radio for Hazmat and a new Steering wheel trim.
This was the state of the trim as of yesterday.
I've spent a bunch of time cleaning it but it's stained hard enough that I couldn't get the original silver color to fully return.
I found them in the junkyard today and got them installed along with
THIS guy!
After weeks of searching I finally found the correct radio, without a busted faceplate! Bonus points was that it's even the correct shade of grey to match the dash in the car! I had to drive to a second junkyard in south Dallas, but because i'm a rewards member of Pick n Pull I didn't have to pay admission again! saved $2!
Got it installed this evening along with the trim pieces on the steering wheel!
Bonus point I also mentioned in the Video
I changed the welcome message to BIOHAZARD WARNING
I was debating between that or HAZMAT 4 THE WIN
Anyone have thoughts or suggestions either way?
GO FAST DON'T SUCK is also in contention.
Does "I need to drive this home" fit?
How about "Loose is fast"
"Two feet in"
"One Lap Someday"
In reply to mazdeuce - Seth :
Biohazard Warnin
is all the availalble character spaces. so 16 characters spaces to work with.
how about "DANGER TO LUNGS"
As a Kentuckian speaking to a Texan, there's a problem with the missing G?
In reply to Daylan C :
I ran out of space.. so it's redneck shorthand... lol
My mind keeps going back to the day you bought it.
