Now THAT's a caddy!
In reply to Dead_Sled :
Yeah pretty much what I was thinking. I need something with sturdy rear seats and anchors for seatbelts and car seats if possible. Kind of rules out a hearse. Unfortunate.
Uh...
https://cars.ksl.com/listing/6752247
this has been listed locally for a while. Either something is very wrong with it, or I'm the only nut job around...
In reply to barefootskater (Shaun) :
At that advertised price, you are still in Challenge range, too.
In reply to Justjim75 :
You know, I'm not sure if he means the radiator fan or the ac fan. Either way, it shouldn't be an issue. Hopefully the insurance folks can get me some money relatively soon.
Aaaaand, the wife says I need a 4 door. And top notch safety ratings. And a tape player.
"how much do you think they're going to give for the mustang?"
"Well when my grandma got hit she got a bunch of money!"
"After months of Court battles and big lawyer fees."
so we'll see. I like old small cars. I really like Honda's. But I also like big boats too.
Counter for the 4 dr requirement: but the mustang it’s replacing was a 2 dr...
yea, wouldn’t fly here, either

And I'm guessing you were about the same age in the '70s as BFS is now . I understand the kid thing though.
Close enough, but I also did not have a wife and kids. Plus, back then, anything except higher end luxo barge was only a bit better than a jalopy. Now you can get creature comforts for less money than a cool jalopy. Times have changed, as well as my age.
In reply to barefootskater (Shaun) :
Well, I know something that has 4 doors and a tape player. And body-on-frame is theoretically safe, right?
At the dealer I used to work for. 2005 102k. Not perfect, but clean. Waiting on the real number. Could be good.
*edit. 3500 is a bit steep and more than I'll get from insurance. Gonna keep looking. Might come back to it in a week or so.
In reply to Mr_Asa :
Oh yes. The wheels are turning. Just trying to figure out the next step and get something to drive before the rental has to go back.
I love my Merc. A completely un inspiring car, but actually exelent transportation. As lon as its not in bumper to bumper traffic, I get 20 - 21 mpg. There are imports half as comfy that get less!!!
Bare in mind, it only got 12-13 in S. FL!
but yea, 3500 is on the high side, but I’ve seen A LOT of asking prices that steep!
I don't really have a problem with the price of the car. It's pretty good, and the mileage is way lower than anything else I've seen.
Not sure why I'm fixating on panthers. Familiarity? I'm about as well versed in them as one can be without ever having owned one.
Also looked at an 05 Mazda 6 but it was broken.
I drove the Mercury. Everything works, it drove quite well. Maybe I go talk to my credit union tomorrow morning.
Maybe y'all can throw some ideas at me? Needing 4 doors to appease wife, back seat obviously. Ac is good. Stereo is good. I like ford, Honda, Mazda, but open to stuff. Let's see what can be seen within say 200 miles of 84770 for 3500 or less. Running. Minor maintenance ok. Ready, go!
Do you like green? How about green and white? This Crown Vic is a "nice car" apparently.

Ford Focus? Those can be fun. This one looks nice, but it's an auto.
https://lasvegas.craigslist.org/cto/d/las-vegas-2010-ford-focus-ses-one-owner/7222598303.html
OK, how about a stick shift? The predecessor to the Focus will escort you safely to your destination.

How about a Taurus with the Vulcan V6 tower of minimal power?

Another Crown Vic, this time with huge dubs for street cred. (Street cred being good or bad is up to you to decide.)
https://lasvegas.craigslist.org/ctd/d/north-las-vegas-2009-ford-crown/7219222731.html
How about a truck? This four-door F150 has a supercharger and a freakin' wild paint job.
https://lasvegas.craigslist.org/cto/d/las-vegas-ford-150/7218637833.html
Pop-up camper van? This old Econoline has you covered.

More Panthers? Sure! This Town Car has a grandpa roof:
https://lasvegas.craigslist.org/cto/d/henderson-2003-lincoln-towncar-2nd/7223551525.html
This Grand Marquis does not have a grandpa roof. It almost looks like a Marauder-lite with the black paint and chrome wheels.

Man, looks like I need to buy my next car from Las Vegas.

yes LT! V8
In reply to Indy "Nub" Guy :
That caprice tho....
Confession: I'm terrible at surfing classifieds. Of the cars linked so far, I've only seen two in my searches. Keep them coming! This is great.
Extra points for more safety.
Just my thoughts...
The panthers listed don't come close to the one you found. The 01 would be a thought at those miles / price.
The LT1 wagon looks good.
my favorite would be the marron 850 with the stick. I had that in at, and really liked it.

Thats the ad for the Mercury. It has a stock photo and not much info. Vin says Canadian made I think. The swinger is the carfax. I know they aren't always 100% accurate. But... it adds weight to the argument. And, it is several years newer and considerably lower mileage...
The big boss said they plan to wholesale the car, and they only list the cheap ones online to get folks in the door.
Good:
I didn't turn the radio on, but the power seats worked, ac (climate control!), cruise, windows, locks, even power adjustable pedals. Such opulence! Good leather seats. Clean carpets and headliner. Carpet mats. The bumpers showed no sign of impact or damage.
Bad:
the cover on the slide out cup holder is gone, the tires aren't great (but not the worst I've seen), and there were a couple Small dings and scratches. The mechanics notes said the oil pan, trans, and diff were all seeping. I peeked at the diff, and it the engine and trans looked the same it's nothing to worry about. The airbag light is on, and there is a hole above the glovebox where I'm assuming the switch went to turn the passenger airbag off. I don't know if the two are related.
Silver... Chrome...
I have some 17x8 5-spokes!
The slide out cup holder / cover should not be hard to find... I just got one from Gumby. I can send you the cover piece from mine... one of the cup holder handle things broke - my fault, not the cars! Mine only has 88K, and has some weeping of oil. Not really leaks, but I'm sure a dealer mech. would write 'em up.
If the boss already plans to wholesale it, walk in with 2400 cash. You'll own it, unless you get a really bad salesman.
You'll need to log in to post.
