I don't care. You can't make me care. Who said anything about the XJ-S? I know I didn't. This was supposed to be motor vs. motor anyway so put the thing in a Geo Tracker with zoomies through the hood if that helps make it happen.
Frenchy:
For a guy with absolutely zero experience with the $2000 Challenge, you sure have a lot of opinions about it.
And they are wrong.
Last year a Cadillac CTS-V won the autocross. The CTS-V is 6" longer than the XJS, weighs as much, and also has IRS.
Huh. Blows that theory (cough, cough, excuse)
It's a racing event. Big cars can compete.
Shame. This thread is worthless. It could have been good.
In reply to Snowdoggie :
Yes I can build a cheap road racer with what I have right now. getting the weight down to 3000 pounds is doable at no real cost. Just remove stuff not needed.
You have to work ( and spend a modest amount of money. to get to 2700 pounds. In Theory 2300 pounds would be possible but the cost wouldn't be budget friendly.
The factory was able to fit 17x12 inch wheels. Inside the stock fenders. ( I can't believe the factory inner liners remained.) since Corvette/Camaro wheels use the same bolt pattern second hand versions of those offer the cheapest best option.
The car handles beautifully now. But the loss of that weight means the springs will be too tall. Chopping coils off stiffens the spring up which is a good thing for the track.
Brakes are good but heavy. Wilwood makes an affordable caliper that's a bolt on. There are affordable vented drilled and slotted rotors that are a bolt on to improve braking.
Power, To quote Rolls Royce. Sufficient.
Knowledge is power. I've been working with these engines longer than many here have been alive and I came to V12's after several decades of racing success building winning cars.

But you are willing to go to Daytona? It's further than Gainesville.

How about whoever wants to be on one side of this or the other show up at the Challenge with either a Jag V12 or a BBC and run under those rules etc and whoever can't or won't doesn't. I could see Stampie show up with a Infiniti / Chevy Q454 and finishes mid-pack at worst and I don't see any Jag V12's getting within 100 miles of the event.
The Challenge isn't really a road racing event and the XJS is really too big for autocross. I actually drove a friend's XJS in an autocross once. It was fun, the V12 was smooth, but it was no Miata. Personally I wouldn't want to build any kind of Jaguar with a budget of $2,000 or less, much less a $300 or $1,000 budget for the engine, but I think you could build a decent track car out of one for less than 20K including safety equipment and race tires and have a blast with it.
I disagree. 100%
I entered the first ever Jaguar in the $2019 Challenge last year. It did really well in the autocross, and was only beaten by one Miata (Dusterbd-13's V6 swapped running on full race slick tires). I was competing in the daily driver "Gastropod" class and the car was on 500 treadwear all-seasons.
You can read all about it over in my build thread.
It handled quite well on course and ran a 14.008 1/4 mile. Not bad for a bone stock Jaaaaag

Yeah but pimpm3 is making your Jag look like it's standing still and he's just walking.

Haven't you been paying attention? Nice people have offered to pay my way. Thank you for offering by the way.
I think it's too expensive. And it won't happen but I would like to try Daytona if it ever became possible.
Same with VIR. .
I have raced Road Atlanta at one SVRA event. Plus 2 times in the Bahama's.
Put the jag v12 in a miata?
In reply to Indy "Nub" Guy :
That's right! There were 2 Jags at the event this year. Both were in full street trim, on street tires. They both performed respectably.
Just imagine if there was someone with Frenchy's knowledge who could build a serious racer out of them?
Too bad there's not.

I am also the guy who emailed you and offered to buy your V12 after the event if you didn't have a use for it.
Good grief.

Good for you!! Considering how stock your car is you did some great driving. Same thing with your 1/4 mile times. Very impressive..
There is a guy up in Canada who races a XJS V12 in Autocross in the North West and has set records , with it.
For the record, I am officially rescinding those offers.
I am not willing to put the effort into raising the funds from other forum members.
I am not willing to donate $100 to the cause.
I am not willing to buy your engine.
Come up with a decent set of rules that aren't a bunch of hot air, and I will reconsider. Until then, I'm out.

I make no pretense of knowledge of the newer cars. Some look extremely interesting.
There's no need to have new rules or any other such thing. Just go attend the Challenge with the cars you want to build.

To be honest, I couldn't care less what you said 6 years ago.
THIS thread is about a big block Jag. Says so right in the title. The obvious question that brings up is whether a big block is a better engine for the Jag than the original Jaguar engine, or if it was a big mistake.
And since Jag is in the title, EVERYONE expected that you would show up with an opinion (and we all knew what that opinion would be- the Jag engine is better, and that they shouldn't have swapped it to a big block)
You are a really good guy who should be able to help answer that question. So far, this thread is a complete waste of time, and you are offering a lot of hot air.
I'm not that interested in a race where the two of you jockey for position to see who can win (or cheat better). I'm interested in answering the question "Is a BBC engine an improvement over the original Jag engine or not, with ultra basic low budget mods that anyone can do". (Preferably within a Challenge budget)
Anybody can build it faster and better. With EITHER engine. That's just noise- you guys huffing and puffing.
Don't make it about winning, or about yourselves, or your pride. Nobody cares. Make it useful to the community, and SHOW us which is better.
Good statement I intend to do just that and have it ready in 2022. Hopefully Stampie will show up as promised and give me a race.

Not Australia, not impressive.
In reply to frenchyd :
Again, twisting things into no semblance of reality. There is no race in 2022. Because you keep changing what you want the rules to be.
There is nothing for stampie to "show up" to. He did not ever promise to randomly drive to a non disclosed location, without knowing what you intend to do.

That is actually a really nice build. I have always liked the body style. I still like smaller cars for autocross though. A Miata or Spridget with anything you can stuff under the hood.
That isn't exactly a V12 though. Isn't that the Ford V8 or maybe a Lincoln motor that they started putting in them back when Ford bought Jaguar? I guess I am a purist. Real Jags have twin cam straight sixes and V12s and they aren't made by Indian Golf Cart Manufacturers.
If this is a an engine competition, why stop with a Geo. Stick a Jag V12 in an MGB or maybe a mid 60s Ford Falcon. Go crazy!

Or what would you say we're doing here?
Ten pages later (which I've only skimmed), let me go ahead and answer my own question.
Many of you are picking on a troll. And now some of you are actually getting worked up about it!
Y'all are better than to gang up on and pick on someone over the internet. Did you have an honest expectation this would work out differently?

So what haven't they put a V12 Jaguar in? An XJ Jeep Cherokee? The guy who owned Harrah's Casinos did something similar with a Jeep Wagoneer and a V12 Ferrari engine. Extra points for making it a 4x4.
You could call it a Cherokee XJS.

How about me buying a V12 from Frenchy, putting it in a Jeep Cherokee XJ and bringing it to the Challenge. If anybody else in the Dallas area wants to help, chip in or drive, I will also provide all the beer and pizza.
(Damn. I need to lay off the Jack Daniels.)
