3 days of drag racing. Our group took 6 cars. Broke stuff and had to borrow a car to keep the driver in the points.

A crew member who has never raced, borrowed a truck and won the Diesel class on sunday!!!!!

Stripped a starter gear in one car, bent a starter shaft in another car and stripped the flex plate gear.

Lost the keys to the trunk of another car had to unbolt the fuel cell and push it up in the trunk to get an arm inside to open trunk.

Found the frame of a new race car was full of rocks and dirt, which it emptied out on the starting line on the second launch, prompting the officials to ask us to not bring it back to the line (after oiling the starting line on the first run because that bolt in the rf of a small block Chev was not installed to plug the hole that goes into the fuel pump pushrod.)

Dropped a valve (i think) in a big block Mopar that usually wins, head gasket leaks don't FILL the oil pan with water or make clattering noises.....

Cracked (not me) the outlet bung weld on a Moon fuel tank for the dragster.

Found the new car was only getting half throttle (running 12.20s) dropped the jets 2 sizes and finished with a 11.82 @ 113! Very happy.  New car was drug out of berry bushes 90 days ago, it got a 9" rear axle and some shocks, slicks & skinnies, new front suspension & brakes, a 383 / T350, big aluminum radiator, a 6 point cage, full paint job, fuel cell & pump big enough for some serious nitrous play. Lots more to come on that car (80 Malibu)

It feels like I have spent more days at the race track this year than I have at home. We are jokingly calling the racetrack home. 3 days the week before 3 days last week 4 days this weekend as we have to go a day early to pull the trans and fix starter problem. He leaves the car and coach at the track on a rented spot, we will use the lift in the staker trailer to do the trans work.

Played a gig with my classic rock/blues/classic country band, first time in a year plus.  Got to play all four of my saxes.  Great fun.

Wow. Someone else here plays sax. What four saxes did you play. I just bought a baritone saxophone.

Walked around a swap meet on Saturday, saw a Biturbo with a V8 swap, bought lots of toy cars, ate a slice of pizza, got rained on. laugh

Visited my dad on Sunday for Father's day (and my birthday) and had more pizza. Also my sister and her husband came to visit from Illinois. Pretty emotional since our stepmom just passed away a month ago.

In reply to Snowdoggie (Forum Supporter) :

Tenor, alto, bari and soprano, all Taiwanese (cheapskate) but good, solid horns.  Mostly tenor and alto, some bari (Mustang Sally, Copperhead Road  and similar), occasional soprano on tunes with flute parts (Nights in White Satin, Can't You See, etc).  Just tenor in concert band.  Not making a living at this (I'm 75) but having a LOT of fun!

I actually play soprano, alto, and tenor. Nothing professional but I was doing some jazz jams and meetup groups before Covid hit and they all went away. I just started playing bari. My best horns are my Selmer MK 7 Alto and my 1923 Buescher True Tone alto. All the rest are cheap horns from e-bay and pawn shops. The baritone I just found was an old Bundy from e-bay that took about $400 worth of work at the sax shop to work again. It turned out to be a good horn.

Rode the Valley of The 5 Lakes Loop in Jasper.  Chock full of rocky rooty old school goodness.

Had a Grizzly amble through our campsite while we were sitting by the fire.

Our BMW CCA chapter did a photo rally this weekend. Ran it with the coworker I sold my 328xi to navigating and we won!

Have to admit that there were times it felt a bit like a busman's holiday-- we spend all week sitting side by side In the front end of an airplane running test cards!

Let him drive back, so at least that gave us a chance to sit on different sides than we usually do.

Iirc the plate on Jim's MR2 reads TENORSAX :)

I've got a Yamaha tenor, a Selmer SA80 series II soprano that I bought in the Pigalle district of Paris in 1990 and a Buffet also from the same era. Never bought my own bari but my favorites to play were the soprano and bari when I studied music in uni. Unfortunately I lost all my connections when I moved to CO so I haven't played in years.

Worked Saturday. This week my weekend is Sunday and Monday.  Took my son out for dinner last night, first time he's been in the restaurant in a year and a half, and the second time for me.

They're killing me at work, so I'm not going to be doing much this weekend. Catch up on sleep hopefully.

Laundry, bake some bread, do some cooking, yard work, get some work done in the garage/on the garage. Doing more of the latter, unfortunately.  And this is what passes for rest.

Did an event at Waterford Hills Road Racing track called Bracket Racing. You get a 20 minute morning "qualifying" session which you use to set your Bracket time for the afternoon session where you're aiming to get laps as close to your target time as possible. This takes place during their race weekends so you get to hangout with the true racers and watch.

This weekend I had to try out the new smoker.  10 lb pork loin slathered in mustard, garlic, and rosemary with a homemade apple sage brown sugar glaze, and a 19 lb (gulp) Brisket rubbed with a Texas recipe rub.  Brisket went in at 6am with mesquite at 230 degrees.  Then at 1pm I foil-wrapped the brisket, refueled the charcoal, and put the loins in at 250 with Hickory/Mesquite blend.  They both came out at 5:30pm.  The Brisket was at 198 and the loins were at 157.  I also did (not pictured) jalepeno poppers with bacon and cheese in the smoker for the last hour and a half or so.

11 people finished 30 lbs of meat in two meals.  The first night was hot off the smoker.  The neighbors have a dairy farm and they brought an ice cream churn.  The custard she made had fresh full cream, 16 egg yolks, and vanilla with about 2 lbs of strawberries.  The second night was leftover meats and blackberry cobbler with cream.
