As the day has worn on, ive noticed 3 or 4 changes, which is actually really responsive, especially considering this is a media company, and the site is nice-to-have, not a must-have. Kudos GRM team.
Things have been moving fast today, that's for sure.
I do just want to point out that we do see the forum and all of you in our online community as a must-have. The ability to spend time and interact instantly with our community is priceless. Sure the magazine is what we spend the majority of our energy creating, but we want to make this site just as much of a haven, if not more so.

We're working on something with our developers that should make you feel better.
So I did a little playing around and my first taught was this.
So with a PSP editing I came up with this.
Guys I just think I got a sneek peek at how immages are going to be handeled. If so it is WAY cool!!!!

That's why I never make comments like that, be it a presidential election or new forum software.
I'm never coming back if they pick the Ridgeline as tow-rig of the year again.
Had to adjust font size to balance between thread and post font size. Granted, my eyes need to adapt yet.
They're still color sanding now, waiting for the buff and polish.
No likey but what choice do I have. Just seems like too much empty space to take in. I never did understand the complaining by other board members especially when they pointed out how another board did things - kinda like saying Europe is better, well go live there then. I'll adjust but if it's anything like how I felt about cable it might be less time spent.
I am now using the Windows 8 IE, and I have maybe 1/4 in of white space to the left and the usual ads on the right. I was expecting much worse after only seeing it on my phone. I actually like the new layout with how I'm seeing it.
New layout is full of nope. Old layout, on my 1680x1050 monitor, I could see eight topics before I had to scroll. New layout has two with the start of a third. Inside the "Who here is new to the forum?" thread, I could see four replies in the old layout before scrolling. New layout, one reply and the first line of the second.
This is way, way, way too much vertical whitespace, guys. Scrolling wastes much more time than you might think. Ain't nobody got time for that.
Too much scrolling for me as well. What is the reason for all the white space? It is tiresome, no, irksome to scroll that much. Maybe it looks ok in 4K, but on a 1920x1080 display it doesn't seem to work. At the forum level the font size is way too large - and really mismatched with the message font size when you click into it. Poor human factors. Make the ratio of font sizes a closer ratio. Its easier to read that way. Please don't make me have to change the zoom (or font size) for every page. I do like the font type on the forum page, so that is good.
The forum should allow one to quickly scroll thru the topics to see whats been active in the last day. If it takes 20 minutes to to do it, (I exaggerate) its going to limit how much quality time is spent here. In general, GRM doesn't want that, do they?
Man.....all this scrolling gets old really fast. Both on the index pages and within the threads. I much prefer being able to see 20 thread topics at once (so I can pick the ones I want to read) rather than having to see like 4 at a time now and scolling, scrolling, scrolling. Way, way, way too much dead space. And the fact that everything is white makes it that much harder to differentiate lines and such.
I'm at 125% to read posts comfortably. With that setting I see three threads on the main page w/ the banner and scrolled down six w/o banner. Lotta scrollin' tho and a lotta white. Just reporting now, not complaining.... givin' it time to sort it all out. I'm sure they'll work it out.
Not liking that I can only go back 6 pages under Latest Topics and the oldest one is 1 day 3 hours. Used to be nigh indefinite.
Finally getting to check this out on my laptop at home. It looks exactly the same as it does on my phone.
I did have to reduce my amount of magnification by around 20% or so but that just puts it in line with the other websites I visit.
I'll get use to the new layout pretty soon I think. The functionality is the same with some added features too. No complaints from me.
However there are a few things that I would have loved to seen implemented. It's not a make or break thing but I believe they would add a lot to the forum.
Those things would make me happier than a pig in slop.
I just tried to upvote a post and got an error message that said "something went wrong". I cleared my cache and still got it so I thought I would log out and log back in, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to log out lol. I am on android, tried the 'three bar' menu in the upper right corner, not seeing it. Help a sister out, how do I log out? And no poop jokes!
I figured I'll show you what it looks like for me. I don't know how to do a fancy screen grab thing so I went all neanderthal and took a picture of my TV.
Touching the screen for scale.
I can't tell what all you guys changed but it seems a bit more pleasant than when I checked a few hours ago. Earlier I honestly thought something was broken but I wasn't sure. I like that the sidebar isn't literally half of the page anymore.
I'll be fine with whatever you end up with but I agree, the white space in between posts uses up an awful lot of space.
DITTO TO ALL THE COMMENTS!
I can't see enough topics at the same time and the fonts are HUGE!
Way too much white space. I think I'll leave and come back in a few days and see if it's useable. Thanks, you just made made me more productive.
I was expecting change, but now there's not really a forum list view and it takes way longer to read a thread due to all the scrolling. Is it time for Tim to get some new glasses or bifocals? Is that what this is all about?
You'll need to log in to post.
