Media sites are great resources for sourcing pictures for manufactures, especially when it comes to locating iamges of discontinued models or concept cars.
It’s also not uncommon that you’ll find something unusual that you weren’t aware of—say, a low-production model only sold in a few markets or pictures of a car you didn’t know the company raced.
This time, however, …

was it also built at VW China and then exported to Nissan ?
1) My guess is someone was setting up the site and inserted pictures to be changed later when appropriate pictures were found.
And later never happened.
2) Or someone thought that no one was ever going to look at the site anyway and did it as a joke.
The excuse will be see line 1.
Toyota sold Cavaliers? WTF!

And you might be thinking, "why on earth would Japanese people want to buy a lousy American car"? Especially since it would now cost even more to own, since it had to travel halfway around the globe.
I don't know about other markets, but I do know that in Japan, some Japanese like to own something that is not from their own country. They really like mustangs and Corvettes. And I would assume that they would own our "large American trucks" (gotta be an innuendo), if they could import them.

IIRC it was part of some deal with the US government that Japan had to import X many American cars.
A friend at Nissan sent me the link to this: a Nissan Passat brochure on eBay.
Sort of related, but Google Nissan Santana, too.

You beat me to it on the Santana. I came across this:

I'm guessing that the B3 Passat was what carried this obviously lucrative venture through to 1991, after the major model change, but haven't yet found any online reference to it.

And they're legal for import this year. Daylan and I were discussing it on Facebook. I think it'd be hilarious to roll into car shows with a showroom-fresh RHD Toyota Cavalier

In hindsight, a Toyota-badged version of the Astro van might have been a better idea.

They were all basically Z24's, even the 4 door cars.
I don't know about you guys, but I'd take a 2000 Z24 over a 2000 Corolla 100 times out of 100

They were probably always legal to import as long as you could prove that the chassis met US safety regulations (certified letter from GM that the safety systems are the same as US) and the emissions is dead simple because that solution already exists.
IIRC, it's the same process when importing a car from Canada.
I highly doubt that GM re-engineered anything. The cars are probably US spec to begin with.

That 2000 Z24 has long ago rusted away to nothing here and yet I still see that generation of Corolla buzzing around town in decent condition. It probably helps that those Corolla's were made right here but still, the ones you see are in remarkably good shape for the age and price point.

I recall the jalopnik article of Nissan selling the B2 Quantum/Santana/Passat, but did they sell it with a 20v motor too?
I saw this and another post on Facebook a friend posted had a really tiny picture, but I can't currently find it, but it was obviously a 20v and not a 10v motor

VWAG stopped making the B2 chassis before the 20v saw mass production, no? 1990 was the first year, IIRC.

Per Wiki (I know), the B2 carried into 89 and mentions a DOHC motor.

Found the image on Facebook, that does look like a 7A based audi motor?

There are special rules for importing Canadian spec cars. I don't know if you can use the GM letter for any other market.

Per Wiki the B2 lived on into the 2010s in China You'd think that would make finding parts for my Quantum easy, but noooo....
That does look an awful lot 7A like, and the interior is definitely B2 Volkswagen and not B3 Audi. Interesting. Wonder if that is the same 2 liter that Italian market 90s/Coupe Quattros got to slide under a displacement tax. (I WANT one of those crankshafts! Supposedly, the shorter stroke makes them stiffer, and they don't wreck oil pumps over 8000rpm from crank harmonics)

The interior parts of the Chinese model B2s were what I wanted for my Quantum wagon back when I inherited my parent's car when I was in high school 00-04 since the Florrida heat did numerous damage to the plastics. But the car got rear ended and totalled by a Ford Exploder in 05. Paint was in otherwise decent shape save for normal use dings and I still miss that car since its been years and wagons have always been cool in the car scene.
