Hello all, I'm selling my XJ, and want another car at 14 years old. I either want an 6-speed RX-8 or a 6-speed B6 Audi A4. I know the RX-8 would be harder to find in my price range, but the Audi would be easier. So what should I get?

Is the car 14 years old or is the driver 14 years old???

Are you a 14 year old who has owned 5 cars?

RX8 all day every day for me, no contest.  Buy a blown up one cheap and rebuild it.

First a 78 C20, then a 01 f-150 v6 five speed, then my XJ, than a 02 ranger and then a 95 gmc conversion van

My 14 year old just got an rx-8, so I vote for the rx-8

Keep in mind that anything rotary powered WILL make you an excellent mechanic (if you want to drive it).  Or, frustrated as E36 M3 if you do NOT become an excellent mechanic.

In a couple years that Conversion Van might get you some first dates but will likely keep you from any second dates as the fathers forbid it!

A V6/manual F150 is a pretty reliable package.  Good for a starter vehicle!

Yup definitely need to add a proper sports car, go rx8 and learn how to keep the ol rotary happy.

Yeah, I just need to find a running stick shift RX-8 for around $2K

They are two wildly different cars.

I had an RX-8, and it was way fun to drive. Like, wow, I'm not breaking the speed limit at all, and I bet I can take that 90 degree turn at 30 and it'll be fine. The RX-8 is a Miata with back seats and suicide doors. Also, and this is key: glorious rotary noises. Drive it near the redline.

I absolutely want another one.

Just out of curiosity, how old were you when you started driving said previous 5 cars and where is it you are driving them?  Inquiring minds want to know...

As a long term learning tool, I feel like the Audi is a much better choice than the Rx-8.

Rotary engines are quickly vanishing from the planet, but you should have a limitless supply of broken Audis to work on for the rest of your life.

I would argue that this is the incorrect strategy.  You want to find the nicest non-running RX-8 you can find for $2K.  Then rebuild the engine.

I'm a huge fan of the rotary, but I'm not sure about rebuilding one on the cheap.  And parts are getting harder to find.

I was going to vote for the Audi.  Classy package, nicely put together.  Rumor has it that they can be unreliable, but my 7-year ownership experience with a 2001 A6 2.7T says otherwise.

I'm frankly surprised by all the love for the RX-8, but it is a superlative chassis.

B6's are just so ugly... B5's and B7's are so much better looking.
