Mmmmm what about the time back in 1979 after Ligier won the first two races you said they were going to crush the opposition?

This really is just the craziest season. Drive to Survive is going to be 450 episodes.
Any thoughts on the new layout? I kind of like it- should make the straights and passing zones a little more effective.
In reply to alfadriver :
The race will tell for sure but it does look like it will create some better opportunities to pass.
Where the heck has Ocon found all the speed recently? 3rd in fp2 this morning. Heartbroken at missing the podium last week.
Took him a minute or two to recover from the year off?

I'm hoping the extra straights are going to benefit my boy Hameeeeeeelton.
I'd love to be proven wrong, but I'm not sure how the RB is going to keep up on such a circuit. :(
Historically MB is fast there from what I understand, and the changes would seem to help the MB more than the RB this year TBH - not saying that was the intent of them btw, I just don't know how this can work out for RB assuming a fired up Hamilton.
In reply to accordionfolder :
Remember, last year Red Bull dominated, but yea, I agree that it *seems* that the changes favor the MB over the RBR. Heck, it also favors the Renault, if the practice times are to believed.
In reply to alfadriver :
Definitely - never say never, but the voice in the back of my head is muttering about Ham just walking away with it. I don't mind him winning obviously, I think it was a good fight this season, I just hope the last race isn't him out front for however many laps strutting away. That'd be a shame after this nutty season. I think qualifying will help set the stage for the coming race, but I'll be watching top speeds in the DRS zones....

Last year Red Bull dominated a Lewis who was just barely back from a visit at Covid jail. Prior to that, It was a Merc track.
If someone held a gun to my head and demanded I place a wager, I'd still flip a coin to choose. This morning, in the opening to FP2, there was some poll that had it 53%-47% in favour of Lewis. I sure understand that. I keep going back and forth...

He won a race over the summer. Belgian maybe? I know he's had a couple of 3rds or 4ths, too. Alpine is either the 3rd fastest team or comes in 11th/12th this season.
In reply to Streetwiseguy :
I still don't think Lewis is out of COVID jail honestly, did you watch him get out of the car after the race at the last GP? My guy was looking whoooooped.
I still haven't watched FP2, but I'm buzzing about qualifying tomorrow!

Lol, ain't that the truth. We'll just have to believe in EL PLAN.

My money is on they take each other out on purpose and Masi decides to DQ them both for the season for the press handing (checks to see who is in 3rd and 4th) Perez the title who wins the race over Bottas in 10th.
Okay, probably not, but with the way this season has gone WWE it's at least a non-zero chance.

I should put that on the back of my Formula 500.
Reading strictly from the rules of awesome, you pretty much have to now. Alpine went WAYYYYYY up in my book because they did this. Alonso's got mojo, he was before my time last go around, but I'm really pulling for him this go around.

I'm going to have to Google something here. I presume something to do with Spain and Alonzo?

Seeing the speed they are generating on a relatively finished car (earlier in the season), seems that Reanult is really getting some solid power out of that engine.
El Plan will be interesting to see next season. May get Mrs Alfadriver back into watching the races (she's a huge Alonso fan, and we happened to be in Palma, Majorca when he won- it was fun to celebrate with them.

I realized that I should scroll up on the thread a few minutes ago, and saw that. Thanks.

Well I will finally be putting the Rotax motor in the car next year. It's a 20hp increase over the current motor.
One of our locals was on a flight with Alonso, his wife is a huge fan and Alonso spent an hour chatting F1 with her.........good guy.
I will be rooting for Hamilton as always.
Horner quipped to Karun this morning that he took all the corners that Mercedes complained about and made them suit their car :-P
Tongue-in-cheek, for certain, but funny nonetheless. A half-truth, if not more, in his mind.
Watching intently with my two boys. One is team-lulu, the other (whose name is Max, but also 3) is rooting for his eponymous hero
