I've actually driven one of these at an autocross and found it fun to drive.

I have owned these before. The GTAs are underrated little cars with great suspension. Slow, but great fun to drive; they are a whole 1900lbs wet or something silly.

Most of them are off the road because the timing belts broke (40-50k interval IIRC). Compounding matters is that the typical RockOReillyNAPAAdvanceAutoZone places list the WRONG BELT (the 1.7L and 2.0L motor DO NOT use the same belt, the tooth count is different by ~2, but it will fit in place) and some previously good engines have been ruined that way. You can get the correct parts from overseas if you know what to look for though.

I always thought it would be fun to hack in  a Honda or turbo Saab motor in one and go have fun at the Challenge.
