So in my want for a new project, something of the V8 kind, I found my self looking at late 70's Nova / Phoenix. If my info is right, 75-79 share a basic platform with the 70-81 F-body. So all the WS6 Trans -Am goodies should bolt on. (Fast steering box, rear disc brakes, after market upgraded control arms, etc) 70-74 X-body would share with 67-69 F-body for the same parts.
A late 70's X is way cheaper than a early car, and cheaper than any F-body.
Am I nuts, or does this make sense?
Makes perfect sense to me. Jerry's got one of these Novas sitting around the shop he's been trying to turn into a twin turbo monster, if he can ever find the time.
Check out Popular Hot Rodding. They have been doing a build on a late 70's Nova. They call if EcoNova. Pro-Touring style build.
Nova Suspension
This specific article talks about what swaps over from a Camaro, etc. I think it is a great idea.

lots of bits are shared, plus there is a healthy aftermarket of bits for them. I'd like to find a decent cheap 4 door one around me, but that ain't gonna happen
Hot Rod magazine calls then Disco Novas.
Don't do that, or I will hunt you down and beat you silly, right after I'm done beating people who call Malibus "bu's".

You know, it makes me uncomfortable when the guys on Top Gear refer to a certain brand of fine German automobiles as BMs, too, especially since they don't appear to be going for the cheap pun. It's like they never even thought there might be another reading of that term.
Ask Andy how fast they can go.
You can't really tell the difference looking underneath.
I made a thread a while ago about how stupid expensive these things are around here. I hope the people selling them around you don't think they're made of gold.
I could have had a free one once, but it had no engine, no title and i didnt have a trailer or empty parking space so it wasnt so exciting after all that lol.

That is exactly the confirmation I needed. Thanks!
they do have a better suspension with better swap options than the early cars- you are a Caprice spindle swap away from 12" front brakes- but they are ugly..
Ugly how? I've heard of this swap, and the use of 1LE rotors w/different studs.
does it screw up the front geometry?
I think he means the car, not the brakes.
Ugly?
You could always go NASCAR on it.
