Like I said above: I want to shed some weight for auto cross and my current rims were cheap and the price is in how heavy they are.  Any recommendations on the best place to look?

What generation of Mustang?  What's your budget?  The easy button is to order with tires from Tire Rack so they show up ready to go, but it's certainly not your cheapest option.

Probably the best bet in the price/weight value:

Holy cow,  that is pretty important. I skipped a groove!

2006 ford mustang gt.  I would like 18 inch wheels.  Budget is as low as I can get them!  I would like to spend under a grand, I have other cars to spend money on! I have looked on tire rack and seen some good deals. I just figured I would throw this out to the hive and see what smarter and more seasoned people thought.

Thanks!

The Traklites on Tire Rack look like a decent deal, as do the wheels z31 linked.  You could also try your local craigslist, I find it helps to try different searches using the car, the bolt pattern, etc. as people don't tend to be very consistent with their ads.  Your profile says Maine, something like this maybe?  SVT wheels

I actually bought a set for the 135i, but decided I'm going to keep the car stock and sold them off.

If you are looking for plain steel rims try Diamond Racing Wheels in Milwaukee WI area.

Plain steel and light weight are rarely the same wheel.

What is considered light weight? What width : 18X9? 18 X 10?

Forgestar offers forged 18 X 10s that weigh as little as 19lbs. They're usually around $360/wheel for an 18X10, so they cost more than the Apex wheels upthread, but the Apex wheels weigh 22lbs each.

Vorshlag weighed a lot of wheels when building their 2011 Mustang project a few years back, so that's a good resource to check out.

I have 18x9 +35 Enkei PF01s on my Supercoupe (which I've converted to the 5x4.5 bolt pattern). They should fit your car well. They're a shade under 20 lbs. each. Got them from Tire Rack.

For reference I think the factory torque thrust style 17x8s on my S197 were about 25 pounds.

Take a look at Konig's new flowformed wheels. They're reasonably priced, made the same way RPF1s are and an 18x8.5 weighs less than 20 lbs.

Thanks Man, I will check into these.  I have been on craigslist, but never saw anything this good.  Funny that you would find them for me in Maine.

Thanks for all your input gang.  All this was what I was looking for.  I wanted to keep things as low cost as possible. I have a son starting auto cross and we need to dump some money into a miata.  I have a friend who has been trying to talk me into a miata with the line that, "for two sets of mustang tires, you could buy a miata."  He is not all wrong.   I got a great deal on the rims I am running.  I was fairly new to auto cross and didn't take into account how heavy they were.  Now every time I swap or move the tires around, I'm amazed at how heavy they are over my stock tires.  Anyway, thanks for all of your input.
