This looks like something I could use on my Spyder kart build. But they're in New Zealand and shipping is $800! lol! Anyone seen something like this available in the states? I need something very compact and more effective than a short cherry bomb or other straight through design
Im cheap and have a good junk pile, so typically i cut open mufflers and re-work them to my needs. Id think a chambered muffler like a flowmaster would be reasonable for a re-work. Have the input on the wide flat side of the muffler, something like that.
Is this the complete opposite of the thread on "fuel filters"?
I had no idea before now, but it looks like that basic muffler design is commonly used on backup generators or heavy equipment. "Cowl" is a brand name/ product line, or it may be called something like "spiral exhaust silencer". Web search turned up a thread on a Unimog forum, plus an old pdf catalog with tech info, and a current manufacturer (in 2014 Phillips & Temro spun off their exhaust products to Miratech), who even has a cool looking online sizing/ design tool (but you gotta ask 'em for access).
Musket Mufflers probably would build anything you want. Otherwise it is not too likely there will be anything off-the-shelf? Industrial applications= heavy, and normally they expect the tangential port to be the outlet. It would be a awesome design, welding, and fab project to make your own. Make sure you document it as a how-to article or vid!
Off topic, but in this pic from Musket Muffler's faeboof page [I can't type anyway, but especially not when there is a cat in the way], what the heck are these chassis????
Motorcycle mufflers are nice and compact, although you'd need to split the exhaust into a Y and/or add some loops and stuff to make those work.
Vibrant also offers a single in, dual side out muffler that would probably take up the entire rear of the car but might be workable.
Your picture above looks kinda like one of these. They muffle sound; maybe give one of these a try?

They appear to be two variations of superstock chassis from New Zealand.
Flowmaster makes these. Flowmaster Super 44 Series Mufflers 8425461
I have two mufflers ive been trying to get rid of. Brand new, one Flowtech and one Turbo style Summit muffler. Both are smaller in inlet/outlet diameter but maybe you could hack them up to make one that will work for your needs?
Let me know, id rather someone take them for free than throwing them out.

Post a couple pics of what you've got, please. I'm leaning toward hacking up a flowmaster but maybe what you've got could work. Thanks!

Ill grab some tonight. The flowtech one looks like a FM rip off. The other is a standard straight through turbo muffler.

The muffler in the OP looks like a Cowl muffler. We used these a lot on diesel generators and other diesel powered equipment when mid-grade silencing was needed. They're not really expensive and available in the USA.

As far as cutting up Flowmasters, I have a question maybe someone could answer. Are all FM's within a series, ie, 40's or 44's or 50's the same inside except for the inlet/outlets? In other words are innards the same on a 2.25" as they are for a 3"?
