I do too, but I had a kid ask me to do it to his crx. His reason? "Those cool rally cars do it". I explained why they do it, and how his car won't make those noises naturally. He still wants it "because those rally cars do it."

Blame rally cars.
.... which don't do that anymore, since they have air recirculation antilag and can also play direct-injection fuel cutoff tricks, instead of the thirty year old "jack throttle, add fuel, retard timing to 40ATDC" bang-bang antilag.
Hey, don't you come in here with your logic.
I have people ask for it all the time. I am not special enough of a tuner to comply. Separates some customers I definitely don't want pretty quick.
There's a Mini Cooper S that drives around the neighborhood a lot that dos it constantly. It would be great to have that option when you were in the middle of and wanted to, as well as a stealth mode. With the cost of catalytic converters through the roof, are the people doing this running straight pipes?
Like someone else mentioned, this will only give the rest of 'us' a bad name.
My turbo MR2 is really quite quiet, even with an aftermarket exhaust. And I'd bet many of you here are in that same boat. But we'll be lumped in with that group, unfortunately.
I'll get a video in the next ten days or so, I know I'll see the Focus again, but maybe others.
Also - thumbs down to the guy in the Lexus with no muffler on his V8 just revving through town.
Thumbs down and middle finger up.
Like my idea to give out small pick axes to every driver who want to rid the world of LED headlamp, I think we should all be issued a large can of expanding foam for cars without mufflers.
In reply to Streetwiseguy :
Pickaxes are large and heavy.
Squirt bottles are small and cheap, and acetone is easy to find.

One of my coworkers (in his early 20s) had a BMW that did this. I'd tell him I went through the loud exhaust phase till I got pulled over. He said it was fine......about a month later he got pulled over.
Crackle tune up here. It'd drive me nuts.
My car has a proper burble with the new exhaust. No tune.

"pops & bangs" tuning. It's annoying
It will go away eventually. Like spinners, underglow, and murdered out cars.
I love it when it happens naturally - on my 71 norton when I hit a perfect blip downshift before a corner... the sex. I also loved it, when the gulp valve on my 69 MG Midget failed and I'd get not only a pop, but a 12" flame out the tailpipe on a well executed downshift.
That said.... I'm an authenticity guy.... if you "program" that into your car/exhaust/engine.... lame.

My 'Guzzi Stelvio pops on decel but that's because I have an exhaust packing on it's way out and it's sucking air.

Known as an "Attack Tune" around here.
Was at a show on Thursday that is hosted weekly by a person who raises and trains horses on his estate. He is gracious enough to let the local hot rod club have a few hundred cars on his lawn every Thursday evening.
Someone with a Viper let loose with one of these attack exhaust and just about got crucified by the crowd who were familiar with the venue and who knew the horses were going nuts.
NOT a fan myself.

I hate it when the kids are on my lawn.

Underglow is back, at least around me.

My mostly stock RX-7 gargles and burbles on overrun, because carbureted rotary without a shutter valve. It reminds me of old racing footage.
The heavily modified one does not gargle or burble or pop or crackle, because it has halfway decently tuned* EFI, and no exhaust leaks for now. It doesn't even get all 12-gauge when I use the ignition cut flat shift.
* Half decent means half crappy, which is why I'm datalogging the drive to work tomorrow. I don't have the tune-while-driving mojo that I used to have.
Gah damn millennials and their mid 30's tendencies

Yeah, but is in the wheel wells of lifted 4x4s on low profile tires.
