Dealing with a weird issue. Car likes going left more than right. It's been aligned since, and received new tires so that's not it. When I turn left, the power steering kicks in with less input angle than when I turn right. I can see the steering sensor react earlier with the ECU handheld computer (FD RX7 with Power FC) going left. It's mostly not noticeable until I hit a bump or bumps causing the power steering to kick in.

So what's the fix? Rebuild the rack? What would cause this?

Any and all help appreciated

Is it "fly-by-wire"?  I seem to have a similar problem with my Camaro after making u-turns, but it goes away within a minute.

What's a power FC?

If the car has any sort of stability control, you should find someone with the ability to center the steering wheel position sensor.  If it's an older all hydraulic system, it's likely to be a problem in the valving of the rack.

I'm aware that Power FC is an ECU tuning/diagnostic device with a built-in display...I assume this is standard hydraulic power steering? If so that suggests a damaged/terminally worn quill valve (I think this is more commonly called a spool valve). If you can disable the PS pump and check for steering effort bias that could rule out any potential non-PS issues.

If it is an FD, a steering angle sensor has nothing to do with the power steering itself.  It is just regular old hydraulics.

It sounds like the spool valve is gummed up or something.

Yes I will do that. Pull the fuse and see what happens. Seems so obvious now thank you.

If it passes the power steering off test, I guess it's time to rebuild the rack or grab a replacement. Is this "quill" or "spool valve" usually located inside the rack? Or is it attached to the power steering pump?

Internal to rack.
