This isn't quite Grassroots, but I figured you guys would know more than anybody else I can think of.
A friend's company runs a pair of Z4 GT3s in the Japanese SuperGT series. I suggested offhand to my friend that it might be possible to bring the cars over for display after their 2013 season, since there's a decent amount of interest in the team. Well, I saw her today, and apparently not only did her company's owners like the idea, they'd like information on what events the cars could potentially run in.
My thinking is that an event like Petit would make the most sense, since it already draws international entries. I'm clueless, however, on what it would actually take to get the cars over here from Japan, to the track, and get the necessary equipment secured and ready for use during the event.
Any input on potential races, transport, service, or anything else would obviously be appreciated.

No advice here, but I saw JGTC in I think it was 2005 when they came to the states. Amazing machines!
I realize that this is on the wrong continent, and may not be pertinent to your question, but it does set some sort of precedent. I guess that the Asian LeMans series has offered a SGT class specifically for Super GT300 cars from Japan.

Does anyone know how different the Asian LMS is from the (former?) ALMS? I gather that the Asian series is nearly identical to the European LeMans series, rule-wise.
First, you're gonna have to figure out which FIA class the GT300 class most closely resembles. I think they're pretty close to the GT-2/GTE class rules, but they might be closer to the GT-3/DaytonaGT rules. World Challenge might be a possiblility too.
I would guess that they are closest to Grand Am GT, but might be welcome in World Challenge GT as well. It would probably be less costly to participate in WC.
the only U.S. series GT3 spec. cars can compete in is the World Challenge GT class. There are some Grand-Am GTs that are based on GT3 cars but they need a lot of work to be legal.
Beyond that, there are likely some club classes that GT3 cars would be welcome in, but I don't know a lot about clubs and classes.
As far as I know the Z4 GT3s that run in GT300 are very similar (if not identical) to the FIA GT3-spec cars.
World Challenge is actually an interesting idea. It's pretty cheap to enter and opens up a lot of track options, plus they're friendly to single event entries and the races are of similar length to a SuperGT race.
I had no idea what these cars were so with a little searching on google I found out!!!! Dam are they nice looking cars.
I don't have much to add but I'm watching this thread for dates to go see them run if you wouldn't mind providing them
