I saw that Tom Bailey's son barrel-rolled the Sh!tbox of Doom. Major frowny face, that thing was sweet. I believe Ayden is okay though.

Sucks that Tom Bailey had to bow out today. Apparently they had severe mechanical troubles that they couldn't overcome. Dave Schroeder, with the nitrous C7 Pro Mod that won Drag Week last year, also melted a few pistons and had to call it quits.

According to 1320 video they broke a valve on the road, and would have tried to fix it but the head was junk and they didn't have a way to obtain a spare.

And Brent's son Shane did a 1-2-1 shift on their turbo H22 AWD CRX and tore the ring gear off the flywheel and broke the oil pump.

I can't believe that car didn't end up in the wall, it lifted the rear tires off the ground when he missed that shift.

Looks like he broke the suspension and put it into the wall anyway on his first pass of the last day.

Did you see the PFI Speed guy snap a spindle and smack the wall?

I like how the drag and drive events have also spawned the phenomenon of trailer burnouts. I remember Shane Mclelland doing the first one with the Crusty Nova and blew everyone's mind.

I really like these kind of events. However, I do think that they should be required to go down the track with all of their kit. If that includes a trailer, then so be it.

Cause "Street Cars".

Diesel Power Magazine's Diesel Power Challenge had an event where all the trucks had to make an 1/8th-mile dragstrip pass with a trailer with a 10,000lb skidsteer on it. That event usually nuked transmissions and u-joints, and it got a little spooky on the top end when the trailer would start wiggling around on them.

I almost forgot....

The slowest vehicle there, a 1925 Franklin. It survived all 5 days and ran 23-24sec 1/4's.

Those were made near me in Syracuse, NY. They used big air-cooled inline engines from the start of production in 1906 right up until they went out of business in 1934.

I've never drag raced before but I've been thinking about throwing my truck in the stick shift class next year.  These events just look like too much fun.

I don't really want to see, nor expect to see, a drag race with trailers. Not really safe as they would be careening into the spectators all the time and spewing spares like grapeshot.

What I would like to see is a field where you drive up to tech in the car, and if it passes, you drive that car as it was in the tech booth.

Street legal. You know, wipers and defrosters and headlights that are not stickers.

No Trailers, luggage and spares travel in the car like this was a vacation with the wife. Maybe we should make the wife mandatory just to keep it interesting?

Sealed long-blocks. You blow and engine you are done. Cause engines in a streetcar should last a few thousand miles of use.

If it was on slicks at tech, you road drive on slicks and race on slicks. Drag radials might be a better bet? Fun to find out. I expect the same tires  you started with to be on all 4 corners when you finish.

If you tech on E85 you drive on E85.

As much as I would like to see the engine tune locked, I don't know if that is realistic.

With such a formula getting rid of the street driven pro-mods, I do wonder what might show up and if there would be much of a show. I expect the fastest cars might be in the 8 second range and the attrition to be huge with most cars not making the end. But to me, the attrition would be a significant part of the attraction.

That's what most people like about Cleetus, Hoonigan, Mighty Car Mods, etc, is they have professional help here and there (some alot more) but they do a lot themselves and air the mistakes which makes them more like me and less like watching top fuel, NASCAR or F1 teams

I see where Freiburger and Finnegan gave their 3rd-gen Firebird GTA away to a 14-year old girl and her father at the end of the week. They made an announcement that they were looking for a father-son team to give the car to, and the girl and her father came up and said they were interested, and they were the lucky ones. Freiburger did say on Facebook that he told them that they should feel no obligation to actually keep the car, if they wanted to sell it off to buy something they liked more or trade it off, go right ahead.

I've been seriously considering putting something together to run in Street Machine Eliminator at Drag Week, but if that doesn't work out, it is tempting to try to run in DYO at Sick Week.

For those of you considering a drag and drive event, I think you all should do it.  To me, they are the best car events you can do but make sure you are very, very well prepared to make it through the event.   I've done 8 of these so far and the best advice I can give is that you need to understand the rules for your class, the car should be well tested, at a drag strip and have a pile of fully loaded (full of tools, pulling trailer, etc) street miles on it and be well prepared with spare parts you could need if you want to increase your chances of making it.   Also be prepared for the financial ass kicking you'll take doing one.  They're not cheap.

I ran my '87 Shelby GLHS at Sick Week. I had planned on running my Shadow which I've run at past drag and drive events, but didn't get the refresh done in time.  The GLHS was doing well until I ran into a bearing issue in the bottom end.   Was disappointing not to finish but I figure my luck was bound to run out at some point. The GLH some of you saw belongs to James Reeves.  He ran into issues also.  Lost a headgasket at SGMP and torched the head.

MidWest Drags is another DND event coming up in June.  Edgewater in Cincinnati is the starting point.  I'll be there also but this time in the Shadow.  If anyone is interested, I believe there are still spots available.

Many people have totaled up 25-3000$ for the week barring mechainical mishap. That's entry fee, food, gas, and lodging.

I've "registered" for the Summit Midwest drags, but I dislike the have to be running at minimum a 10.5 for almost every class but the street machine eliminator category. Just waiting on a conformation email now...

I won't have a car ready by June, but seeing as Edgewater is only about an hour drive for me, I'll have to see if I can take that day off to spectate.
