According to seller: 1st owner: Female, GA, used it as a DD. 2nd owner (also female) bought it with 65k 5 years ago, and uses as a "vacation/fun" car. Has a Company car, husband has a Company truck. Only bummer: ACCORDING TO HER, they were following a truck in the mountains, something came off, punched through the grill and radiator, and berked up the hood. Hood and bumper have been resprayed. Color seems to match in pics...but they all look good in pics. Very gently suggesting the only other car I was looking at was $13.5k and had the upgraded motor mounts, she came down easily on price. Will need tires soon. Waiting on VIN for carfax..... http://columbia.craigslist.org/cto/4090128026.html

So, TAN interior FTMFL Dude with the one in Indianatuckey got back to me "Will need clutch in next year or so." Bummed.

In the price range/age/mileage you are looking at, pretty typical a LSx anything will need a clutch around that time if the typical average driver has driven it.

Good point. I might end up holding out for something local at this point. Gonna try to meet up with Mr. Independent Shady Car Salesman guy on monday.

Clutch kit with flywheel (and yes, you want to lose the stock flywheel) is $1,500 plus installation. Tell them to have it done or take off that amount.

In reply to poopshovel:

Yep. The 05+ LS2 cars have a E36 M3ty dual-mass flywheel. Luckily for you a complete factory LS7 kit bolts right in for less money. We did this on Thundercougarfalcongoat's GTO. Get the flywheel, clutch kit, clutch master, and clutch slave. The 04 LS6 cars don't have as bad of an issue, but could still benefit from an upgrade. The stock flywheels are very heavy and the clamping force on the pressure plate is soft, which is why the clutches tend to die so quickly.

I have. First two are all wrong. Last one is a contender, but a lotta driving.

Why is the clutch thing a deal breaker?

Because that is a $1,500-$2,500 repair, and the guy owns a business and has a kid (with another on the way?), and this will be his DD?

Just a guess.

(That came off as snarky, I didn't mean for it to be)

What am I missing here? I'm seeing clutch kits for around $600 and flywheels for under $300.

this one is 12k with 104k miles and some nice extras. It has tan interior, but it's 12k, so maybe that can be overlooked. That or swap it down the road. Before I sold my 944T I had gathered most of the parts needed to swap it from tan interior to black.
