Also note, that engine isn't a powerhouse in that car.....especially with an auto backing it. So I see nothing wrong with a teenager driving one, nor do I understand why the car and the realistic selling price of 7-9k makes the parents "affluent" and lacking common sense.

My sister in law has one. She really wanted a 1966 Lotus Elan, but it was out of the price range so she settled for the Z4.

Agree Yamaha. 'Rich' around this board means your car cost more than challenge money to some.

That being said, I have a similar year Miata and I would not entertain selling it for 7k. 9k is closer, but I'd rather keep it in the garage for that. Seems strange that a Z4 which started life a bit more expensive than my MSM is now in the same ballpark price wise.

  1. Get Carmax offer.
  2. Ebay no reserve auction with an opening bid of what carmax offered.
  3. Sell to Carmax or ebay buyer, whichever is higher.

It won't get you top dollar, but it will get it gone in a week.

Where is the car? If you mentioned, I missed it.

Long shot, but if you want to shoot particulars to mfennell70 (AT) yahoo (DOT) com, my dad in Jacksonville FL is actually looking at Crossfire convertibles (I don't get it either) right now around the same price point. I have bought a car for him up in NJ (you're in PA?) in the past for him to drive back later.

In reply to mfennell:

I can't imagine anyone wanting a Crossfire so to cross shop between that and a BMW is pretty surprising. Good luck on getting him onto this.

We all thought she should be arrested for 'attempted manslaughter'..but it actually worked. Since he had a nice car, he wanted to keep it nice. He even stopped driving drunk, which was astonishing to anyone who knew him.

I had an uncle who took that logic even further. When my cousin had his third car wreck, my uncle declared, "From now on, you're riding a motorcycle until you learn to pay attention!"

I agree with everything except that the MSM has a cult following like the Z4M cars.....the miata equivelant to this would be an NB or NC auto.

Maybe I'm just jaded, but there were more kids with $20k diesel trucks at my rural high school than sub $3k beaters. We were not in an affluent area at all. 95% of the "industry" around us was farming and the other 5% was from tourism to the birthplace of James Dean.

In reply to pres589: Turns out he drove one over the weekend and pronounced it "crap". This is a guy who, when I was growing up, owned a Vega, Pinto, Omni, 4cyl Celebrity, and LeBaron GTS in succession. No lack of excitement in our household. Since he retired he's owned a Miata, MINI, 2 MR2s ('86, '94 Turbo), and an E46 wagon. The bar has been raised.

WRT the OP's Z4, he's really set on a lower mile car.

Probably too old/too many miles for Carmax.
