My brother's 2000 Taurus has no heat. He's replaced the head gaskets. Now he doesn't get any heat. Even before, it would take a really long time to warm up.
It air temp will never rise above warm, and quickly drop. When he replace the gaskets, he used all new coolant. Also, the radiator fan kicks on, even when the engine is cold. Not sure if that's related.
We're thinking it might be that thermostat. We're used to old school stats, so maybe there's something to a newer engine's thermostat that we're over looking?
He probably needs to bleed air out of the system.
Run it down the highway, if the gauge isn't near center you need a new T stat. Also, try flushing the heater core with a garden hose, and make sure there isn't air trapped in the heater core.
Duh! Bleed the air out. I've done so many Caprice t-stats that this should have been obvious. If that doesn't work, new thermostat. I hate throwing parts at cars. Thanks for the quick replies.
I was afraid for a moment you were going to say the heater went.. I swear those cars are built around the heater core

I second the heater core flush. Flush it both ways (alternate between each tube several times)
Add one of these to the fuel tank and voilà, all the heat you could want

if flushing the coolant system out doesn't help at all.......might need a blend door actuator on the hvac housing.......those are a total PITA to get to as well. My '91 needs one, but I just don't want to deal with it.
the blend door isn't too bad- the dash falls out of the way with a few bolts and it's only a few screws that hold it in place.
