1995 Mustang GT, looking at searching ebay and the like for an MT2500 rig since they still seem like the best live diagnostic reader for OBD-1 cars. What cartridges do I need? ebay isn't turning up anything that I can find for a primary cart for a 1995 Ford that isn't OBD-2. I'm trying to just get what I need and not a pile of cartridges and cables since I'm not planning on going into business on this and don't need a bunch of things that aren't used for my specific application. Can anyone point me to the proper Snap-on part numbers for the cartridges I need? I assume I need a primary, a troubleshooting, and maybe a Personality Key?

Thanks!

No personality keys needed for OBD1, just need the proper vehicle connector. You will need the domestic troubleshooter cartridge up past the date you need, it stops at 03 IIRC. The other slot can be the trans troubleshooter, Euro/Asian, or left empty.

Bear in mind that SnapOn has discontinued ALL support of the brick. So if it comes up dead, you are screwed to getting it repaired.

In reply to Ranger50:

I'm pretty sure I need a Primary cart since they exist for all other OBD-1 platforms, the problem I have is that I see Ford Primary carts for '81 to '91, '81 to '93, but not past that. And since the computers changed somewhat for the '94 and '95 V8 Mustangs from the various ones used in the Fox cars, I don't think I can just use a '93 Primary and fake it somehow.

Hopefully someone that has a set that covers my car can chime in and give me some p/n's. And I realize Snap-On doesn't cover this thing anymore, but I'm worry that something like the Innova 3140 won't give real live information, just the same dumb codes you can get with a $20 hand-held with LCD job like I already have.

I think after 94, you got a EEPROM style cartridge that covers all the domestics. Meaning there isn't specific make coverage in individual cartridges.

They comboed the carts, or at least mine is. I still have an MT2500.
I have 2 carts and they do everything, coverage up to 04.

So something like MT25002995, a Domestic Troubleshooter cartridge, would do everything I want on the car in question? Show codes, display live data, run diagnostic exercises etc? Pardon my ignorance, I haven't held one of these things since 1999 or so.

I've seen MT2500 bodies for about $80, one of these carts for $32, would still need a power supply and cable and should really get a manual too. If I can get it all together for under $200 I'll be happy.

Except auto trans. Power is supplied through the OBD connector, even on OBD1. After that, just need the generic cable and your connector for the OBD port in question.

Sweet, mine is a manual, so don't need to worry about that. I realize there's some ABS stuff possible but I don't care there either. Will start ordering stuff when I get home (out of state on business currently).

You'll need to log in to post.
