They sell engine control packs for other ecoboost engines, so maybe one will eventually be offered for the little guy of the bunch.

Pretty sure people were saying the same thing about new motors 20 years ago and now how many ls swaps and other new crap are around? If theres a will theres a way, I bet megasquirt could run it although idk how the direct injection fires although i bet its not too much different from port injectors I mean its just a solenoid..

No, MS can not run direct injection. It's not even close to the same- where normal injection runs 12V, DI injectors run 65V, and they run a very specific shape to open and close the valves when there's 2000psi of fuel behind them. There IS an aftermarket DI injector box.

But that does not solve the high pressure pump control part.

Someday, maybe. But not right now.

And tuning is very different, too- injection timing will be close to as difficult as spark timing is- you can get it close to run, but to get it really good takes time and mapping. If one can get an OEM's actual map, that would solve a lot of problems.

One other thing that swappers have had issues with- the more recent cars have their powertrain controllers far more integrated within the vehicle. So it's harder now than it's been in some time.

In reply to chiodos:

I don't think that is quite right. Eventually there will be aftermarket stand alone solutions, but for now from what I understand this is not a problem that can be solved via MS.

It sucks that these are both so thin on the ground and difficult to swap- a 3 cylinder that's the size of a typical piece of copy paper making over 120HP has MANY uses, and I think fully dressed they're only around 250 lbs.
