Hi everyone! I'm new to the forum. I'm on a mission to find a 4wd Mazda Protege. If anyone knows of one, please bring it to my attention.

Thanks!

Hello all, new to the forum. I was hoping to get started in HPDE/TrackDays/Autocross this year but am starting from scratch. Just looking for some tips to get started.

Yet another long time reader, first time post. I'm a Japanese import tuner guy from way back. After seeing John Morton and the BRE team dominate the TransAm series with the underdog Dataun 510 when I was a kid, I was hooked. My first car was a 68 510 that I drove all threw High school. As soon as I had a real job and some money, I built my first 510 autocross car and my brother and I ran it at San Diego's Jack Murphy Stadium parking lot starting in 1982. Fast forward 31 year, after getting married and having 2 kids I was diagnosed with a degenerative retinal disorder and told I was losing my vision. I was scrambling to reorganize my life going back to grad school to become a psychologist when my brother calls saying he just bought us a car. It was a rolling chassis of a 72 Datsun 510 race car, and he said let's build another autocross car. No budget, let's just see what we can do... After 10 year of throwing everything we had at it we've built a serious open class mini monster that's way beyond our wildest dreams. Swapped a turbo 2.0L SR20DET and 5 speed trans, all custom drive train, suspension, Toyota MR2 rack & pinion, Willwood Big Brakes, low cradled ATL fuel cell, etc. Although I'm not driving it anymore, I still wrench on it, and it's an absolute blast riding shotgun. Let's hit the grid y'all!

Hello All,

I am Jerry, a new member, long time looker. My home is in Jax FL. I enjoy this forum for the threads, especially the build threads and cars for sale. I am a contractor working on TUAV systems for the Army. I do rotations all over he world, usually 3 months on 3 months off now, but the last 7 years have been 6 and 1’s. In Afghanistan at the moment....

thanks!

Howdy y'all,

I'm Matt from San Antonio, TX. Long time lurker, first time poster.

I've autocrossed locally in my X-Prepared 1995 Miata. I also purchased this NB1 for Challenge money and am serious about competing this year after toying with the idea for too long.

I'm fond of my college years spent in Flint, MI, so I'm very proud of this GM junkyard parts bin engineered Miata theme: Roger and Mi(ata) Racing

Can't wait to meet everyone in October!

Hey GRM'ers

Decided to take the plunge and join in here. I'm Tony from St. Charles, IL. I've got a small stable of German junk that I try to stay on top of. I've got 3 BMW's a 2000 E39 M5, 1992 E34 525it, and a 1976 2002.

The M5 is the daily.

The E34 is a project/restoration/driver.

And the 2002 is my future track toy.

At some point, I'd like to make it out to a track day and eventually even do some competition. Endurance racing has piqued my interest, but I've got a long ways to go before I go door to door with anyone.

I'm a bit new to the whole forum thing, well posting in one at least. Not the best at taking pictures to document the process, but as you can see I've made sure that I have plenty of work to do. I envy alot of the GRM'ers that seem to be a lot more resourceful than I am at sourcing used parts. I'm hoping some of that mojo might rub off on me in time. I'll probably do a little write up on the E34 as it's the car I've actually done a decent amount of work too. Hopefully you guys will enjoy the show.

Welcome! I literally just picked up an E39 this past week. I've had a fleet of E36s, and this is my first 5-series. Now I know who to bug with any questions haha.

In reply to Ed Higginbotham :

If you've been through the usual E36 ownership experience, then you'll already be pretty well equipped for the E39. I'm actually learning as I go with the M5 seeing as I just picked it up about 3 weeks ago! Feel free to throw whatever questions you might have my way though, something might stick. What E39 did you end up getting. I was eyeballing some manual 530's, but I couldn't resist the power of the S62.

I've already manual swapped my E34 and did a full rear sub-frame rebuild (Sub-frame bushings, RTAB's, camber/toe adjusters). If you have any questions about that area of the E39 I'd probably be best equipped there since the difference between the two cars isn't too vast.

Cheers!

Yep, E36s are my jam. Come to think of it, other than a Miata and a Mercedes I've never personally owned any street cars other than E36s. And I too just finished a manual swap on the current race car project (linky)

I picked up a 2002 540i. So it has the M62TU. Basically I'll be wearing a shirt around saying "I wish I had an M5." cheeky

Howdy y'all.

I've been tinkering on cars and machinery since I was a lil one.  These days I occupy my time with various projects. I've two classic Honda motorcycles and a Honda powered Yamaha. Yup, I like my Honda motors.

Though I'm dropping a Suzuki Gsxr into my '27 model T. The "T" is an ever evolving project, something for me to get crazy with.

Hello everyone.  Long time subscriber and forum reader from San Antonio.

I've been a grassroots enthusiast for a long time, cutting my mechanical teeth on a '69 VW Beetle as my first German car.  I started a list of my automotive journeys here but it started to get really long.  Let's just leave it at mostly German cars with a healthy dose of British and some Japanese iron.  I did want to explain where the username and avatar came from, so...

I was trying to restore a MGA 1600 MkII on a budget when my wife happened to see a car parked on the side of an industrial road in New Orleans with a for sale sign on it.  I looked at the MG and thought I could salvage the wire wheels and hubs for resale to add to the restoration budget and scrap the rest.  She, "You should buy it."  Me, "I wouldn't give more than a hundred bucks for it."  I call the seller and he says, "a hundred bucks."  I drove it home and parked it in the backyard.  It was from way up north.

Rusted rockers (yes it had chicken wire with newspaper and bondo providing structural support - no kidding), bashed bonnet and literally nothing but the top keeping the car from folding in half.  But it ran like a sewing machine.  Me, "It'd be a shame to cut it up but there's nothing left to the body.  She, "Why don't you buy a new body?"  Me, "nobody sells body shells and if they did it would be cubic dollars".  Just to humor her I called a local dismantler and for $150 I had a '74 MGB GT shell.  Delivered to my driveway.

The rest was anti climatic.  Used fender...$100.  Used aluminum bonnet...$100.  See the pattern?  I melded the running gear of the '72 with the '74 adding tube shock conversions fore and aft and ran the resulting automobile as my daily driver for a number of years.  One of the most dependable I've owned.

And if you think I was lucky to marry this woman, let me tell you about the time she begged me to buy the 911 SC.

Hello from Illinois. Bloomington; the Home of Corvette Gold.

By the way, how does one subscribe to a thread; cannot see a button to do so and cannot find a Frequently Asked Questions page.

Current drive is a 2012 Juke SV, turbo and 6 speed manual, with color studio wheels and spoiler (in blue) on Gun Metal Gray.

Thanks for the help!

What’s up y’all. New to the forum but I’ve been stalking it for quite a bit. I’m finally at the glorious age I can have my own car. Right now on CL there are some spectacular deals on two Nissan 300zx (86 and 87) chances are I’m gonna pick em up. Combine into a Frankenstein of sorts and create a hardcore DD. Decided I may need some help and documentation along the way. And since I know my way around forums from my fish tank stuff I signed up here! Stay tuned...

Hello,

Cannot see a WATCH LIST at top of my page or screen. Nor at the bottom. Thinking that I have to have a watch in order to see the WATCH LIST, I clicked on the EYE. Went to a page that said SOMETHING WENT WRONG with a button in red saying GO BACK. So I did.

Thanks,

John

Hi All,

I'm Ben from the maryland suburbs of DC (live in MoCo, work in PG). I co-own/co-run Proteus Bicycles in College Park, and certainly consider myself more of a bicycle person than a car person. I have long been fascinated with reading build threads including many I've read on the GRM forums, and frankly I find there're a lot more interesting car/truck build threads than bicycle build threads. I also do my all my own maintenance on my old ford Ranger (about the simplest vehicle to maintain I can think of) and the basic stuff on family members' vehicles, brakes and oil changes. But recently I've been asked to help with a bigger issue on an in-law's car, and I think I'll start a new thread for advice on that shortly.
