I know this topic came up a few days ago, but I can't find it. This is a little pricey, but it may be worth the buy in if you need a 928.

Not mine, etc...

I like the original thread recommendation of buying a 911 instead.

I already have a 911, but would love to park a 928 beside it. I tried to buy a nice 928 from a former forum member a couple of years ago and the car got damaged before I made the trip, so these 928 threads always interest me. One of these days the right one will come along again.

I've always sorta liked them. Maybe I watched Risky Business too many times back in the 80's. They are neither air-cooled nor rear engined. They don't look as good as a 944. They resemble an AMC Pacer that has been overhauled now that I think about it. But I still like them. They are one of those cars that I will occasionally search out on craigslist, but never call or email the guy. More than likely a car I will never own.

The strange fold down headlights made me glad that Austin Healey was too cheap to make retractable headlights for the Mk1 Sprite. They just may have came up with something like these.

The newer s4 and GTS are the ones you want. Had a S4 with a manual back in the very late 80's and it is still one of the best cars I have ever had. Unforchinitly I needed a house as living in an s4 did not seem like a very good option at the time so I sold it on and got a house. I am still not sure that it was a good choice.

To answer the question, everyone is looking for a 928, but they may not be aware of it yet.

There was a good looking 928 S4 at Road Atlanta in the Porsche Parking Lot that I had to stop and drool over a bit.

That is the one that I like the best. notice the suttle differences with the taillights (flush versus the ones up at the top of the thread). I also like the headlights better as the s4 gets rid of the chrome ring around the headlights.

I always wanted headlioghts in these things that were "pop up" like the 944's with a cover on them not the "pop out" style that they are. I always thaught that it would improve the look of the car if they made that change. OR go with a more modern semi flush mount headlight like the more modern 911's. All just nitpicking a superb car.

The s4 I had was one of the first in the country and I don't think it had any kind of limiter on the top speed. I know for sure that it would do 3x the legal limit with out effort. Another really cool thing is that the car automatically lowers the suspension when you get up to speed.

A car that was way ahead of its time. The other thing people should realize about these is they really are not a very good sports car what they are is a superb grant touring car.

I actually know where my former car is and it has been sitting for about a decade (or more) in a heated garage. I want it back but the current owner and I have a very large difference of opinion as to what it is worth now. I know that it needs a complete going through and would probably coast me 10's of thousands of $$$$ to bring back to road worthy ness. The current owner dismisses this as not a cost that should be considered as part of the purchase price. I just hope some day they call. I think because they know I have an attachment for that car they can think I will pay more for it. At some point I hope some one else tells them what I have been telling them about what it is going to cost to get it back on the road. I touch base with them every now and then.

This is exactly what my former car looked like. The color and the wheels. Everything.

The headlights are always a dealbreaker with the 928 for me. I did see someone a long time ago that did a Datsun Z'esque fixed headlight retrofit that looked the tits though. It totally fixed the front end's aesthetics in my humble opinion.

Damn, that wing completely changes the look of the rear of the car. I've always hated the rear end, but that changes my mind.

When I was looking at these the S4 with the wing was the only one that looked good to me.

I need to read up on these. My buddy just bought a white one for about $2,000.

Never really been able to warm up to those although they seem quite a bargain if you can afford the up keep. There was a 928 advertised not long ago for sale in our area for $3500. or trade for a bass boat. I passed on it since I don't own a bass boat.

Not a fair recommendation. You're comparing the most over valued Porsche to the most under valued Porsche.

In what ways?

Power, interior, weight distribution, rear suspension layout, engine location

It's a better GT car than the 911, but kind of heavy to be a sports car. That's what the 951 was for
