Speed Triple - basically a naked daytona with upright seating.

Or a couple of weeks on a sport bike every day - your wrists will toughen up pretty quick.

Keep in mind...just about any bike in the liter category (1000cc and above) will be much heavier than you SV650. Try to push the thing around in a parking lot to get a feel if you can.

If you want more speed...maybe it's time to track the SV? Get you some equipment and hit a track day. It will be safer than the street and it will teach you the real value of the SV. That little bike, when ridden well, will shame larger bikes like Miata's shame faster cars on the track.

If you got to have a faster street bike to hoon around on....just about any Jap 4 will do the trick. Think Zuki Bandit 1200, ZRX1100/1200, Yamaha FJ1200/1300. These are all more upright bikes with plenty of balls. Bring your brain because they'll kill you fast. The Honda Blackbird, Hayabusa, ZX11/12 are all hyper speed machines. We're talking they top out north of 180mph. I've seen Hayabusa's hit 160mph on street rides. I don't ride with those guys anymore.

A good bike I think you'd like...just about any VFR. They all sold extremely well for a reason. Hell, there's one for sale here in Richmond for $2500. It's got some miles but a lot of replacement parts. Plenty of power and that incredibly sweet V4 motor. I hear Honda lost cash on each one.

My SV650 is faster than I am...

Will I get a faster one? Yeah, eventually. Am I at a rabid CarKid-level of need to "upgrade"? No way. Cool your jets, dude.

I often think to myself, "damn, this is fast." And then I realize I still have more throttle to turn.

+1 for both of you, and Xceler8x

That SV is plenty of bike for the real world.

I can see wanting different: a cruiser or a tourer maybe. But for all kinds of everyday riding, that thing's a Swiss army knife, more than capable of whatever you throw at it.

(I don't mean the following to be condescending in any way, but I do speak from experience here.) This is a tempting position for a relatively new rider, and we've all fallen into the trap. But at this point, I think you need to work on improving you, not the bike.

If I were you? I'd get an SV track rat. You can get your rocks off on the track (properly ridden, it will embarrass literbikes, guaranteed) and build your street bike into something more comfortable for daily riding. That way, you'll benefit from knowing the bike inside and out, and only having to buy a limited number of parts for the 'fleet.'

What? a quick google search shows that a 2000 yamaha R1 is almost the exact same weight as a 2000 SV650.

Pull the fairing off the R1 and you stand to loose more weight. And newer gen bikes just get lighter.

I just sold the exact bike you are describing - a 2002 Ducati S4. I am looking to buy a used S4rs -130+ hp!

I stand corrected. What's the horsepower rating on an R1. Is it up to 140 hp yet? In the same weight as an SV650.

To quote Sergeant Roger Murtaugh, "I'm getting too old for this sh!t."

Gorgeous Duc btw. Drooled all over those a few years ago. Beautiful but too expensive for me. I'm just a poor boy and my story sad to tell.
