My 2 y.o HP desktop decided it would be fun last night to short out the Ethernet port. This creates a problem for me, because I need the Internet to put in my time for work. Luckily I have a second PC hooked to my TV, so I'll just run my 50' ethernet cable I made from my router. I did have a wireless adapter for the TV PC but a thunderstorm took it out. Now I need to go by a new network card for my desktop. 
My main e-mail server decided we sent out too much e-mail ads and locked up my account. Total of 125 ads to my existing customers. Say what?? Have to wait till Monday to get it cleared up. Seems they want more money to allow us to do this. On top of our cable being down for three days last week, due to our second lightning strike in three weeks, I'm about ready to go back to the dark ages before computers. ( NO, not really) We have created a monster that we rely on far too much.
Get a wireless USB dongle - they are about $20 and you can stick them in anything that needs a connection without opening the case (assuming you also have a wireless router... )
I have one in my van as part of my inventory, I'm half considering using it.

I tether through the USB port on my 11 y.o. Gateway compy. Works like a charm... How ever a charm works.
Public service announcement:
All surge suppressors fail.
All common plug-in type surge suppressors are sacraficial devices.
Cheap ones shunt to earth rather than suppress the surge.
These types slowly absorb little surges too, diminishing their maximum surge capacity over time. Consider replacing any older than 5 years.
Phone and cable lines are more susceptible than power oftentimes.
Whole house surge-suppression is not very costly, and is a more consistant bottleneck.

WTF? It started working again today. I shut my comp down for 24 hours and now it's working again.
Possibly an OS issue?
Run windows update. Thats my first thing I do and it's what I tell everyone when they first start having any Windows problems.

I don't really think so, it was probably somehow, someway disabled in device manager/driver's uninstalled. ALSO, IF windoze did an update to the drivers, it may have needed a restart to start working again.
