What is very expensive $1000? $2000? $10000?

Just looked at cruises.com for options- most of the 3-5 night choices in July are Carnival cruises. I know nothing about their ships...

36 opions next July- http://www.cruises.com/results.do?searchOrigin=refine&d=&d2=&places=ALL&days=2&Month=7%2F1%2F2013&dd=ALL&fd=2&c=ALL&v=ALL&p=ALL&shoppingZipCode=&sort_by=7&IncludeSeniorRates=false&IncludeAlumniRates=false&AlumniCruiseId=false&Search.x=46&Search.y=7

6x that for 6-8 nights.

If you spend a lot of money on stuff- you can make a cruise cost $10k. it's not that hard, if there's an art auction.

But know what you want, keep it to that. We typically spend about $50/day for the both of us over the cruise- wine, excursions, stuff, whatever. Don't focus on the expensive, unless you have the habit of not paying attention to what you are getting.

At least get some champagne and other celebratory stuff. Honeymoons are supposed to be a big deal. Wherever you go.

I am not trying to be a cheap ass on the honeymoon but I don't have unlimited money. I am probably going to have $8-$10k saved and SWMBO will have some saved but we also want money for furniture and stuff once we will need after marriage. And try to have the downpayment for a house the next year.

In reply to 93EXCivic:

One thing about cruising that sucks in July- it's far from the low season. Kids are out, and families see that cruising is very reasonable.

That being said- if I were in your situation, this is what I would go on (based a lot on my bias toward RCCL)- http://www.royalcaribbean.com/findacruise/cruiseDetails/itineraryAndPricing.do?hasSenior=&hasMilitary=&hasFireandPolice=&cruiseType=CO&state=NA&packageCode=JW07D107&date=201306&sailDate=1130706

and I would shell out the extra for a balcony. Especially if you can find a cabin in the aft, which has an extra large balcony. She's a great ship, and the itinerary is really cool.

But that's just me.

May I suggest an adults only resort since it will be a honeymoon?

You can leave for day trips/sightseeing if you choose, or you can lounge on the beach and have drinks/snacks all day..........and pretty good food at night (assuming you stay at a Sandals-level or higher type place).

We are going to Sandals in Negril for 9 nights for $4k this November (that includes our roundtrip flights and transfer to resort). We stayed at Sandals Montego Bay last November and had a great time. Avoid Breeze's or similar "budget" all inclusives, we went to the one in Nassau for our honeymoon............it was terrible.

we are going to thailand for our honeymoon at the end of May. we booked the flights with miles and the hotels are only going to cost around 3k. Phuket is supposed to be really nice, we're spending 7 days there, and then 3 in Bangkok before coming back. you should be able to find flights if you book far enough ahead for 1500-2000 round trip for the two of you. its a long-ass flight but from what we've heard it is well worth it.

Suggest away. I am just looking for ideas. Then I am going to start really digging. I am kinda leaning towards either a cruise or Bermuda (cause it seems like it is a bit cooler and less likely to get hit by hurricanes.).

I'd look at the Sandals and higher level resorts in the Carribean.

Great service, food, atmosphere. No one under 18 and no singles. Always private beaches (at Breezes in Bahama's it was next to a public beach, which mean you get harrassed all day by women selling T-shirts and wanting to braid hair, guys selling drugs.......although it was cool to watch the yound kid go dive for conch shells, pull them up clean them out and put them for sale right on the beach).

But it's all in what you want to do, if you want to lounge and be waited on........I say go for a nice all-inclusive resort. Just depends if you like to "relax" on vacation, or if you have to keep "moving" on vacation.

I like to relax, lay on the beach, read a book, have a drink, take a nap, maybe have a snack...........rinse repeat.

I wouldn't cruise anyway, but we do Aruba for 7 days for a little more than $1000 per person all inclusive. My wife's rule is $1000. That allows her to go 3-4 times a year, and it's very possible for a nice all inclusive resort.

Where and how?

Looks like about $1400 just in two roundtrip plane tickets from where I live. You guys get food, lodging, drinks for $600 for two people for 7 days?

Asking because I would do that in a second. I realize you aren't staying at a fancy resort, but that's too cheap to not do.

No sure that really describes either of us. We like to see sites and go do stuff. Not much for sitting although we will want to do that some.

Start by looking at the travel sites like itravel 2000, and travelocity, etc. What she does is, she sets a date, then starts watching the pricing and last minute deals. Last minute doesn't always really mean last minute. What she does is just like what we do with the used car classifieds. Soon enough, you'll know exactly what stuff is worth, and when the prices are best. A few good times to travel are the beginning of September (school starting) and the beginning of December. Lot's of people want to travel at Christmas, but nobody goes away in the first few weeks of the month, so the deals are there. Always check the the local weather/rainy season for where you want to go. For Aruba, this is not a problem. We typically go to the Holiday inn Sunspree for $1000 or less. I think they renovated recently, and the deals are not there right now, so she is looking at the Riu for $1200/pp all inclusive this year. That is not a low end place by any means (nor is the sunspree). Anywhere in Aruba is nice, but the highrise area has the atmosphere in the evenings.
