Hulu provides old episodes of current TV shows (and a serious pack of old B-movies) for free. They do have commercials, though. Hulu Plus has more current stuff (and no CMs), but they want money for it. It's kind of like a Netflix wannabe, but without the DVDs.

We like it, but we don't sweat being a season behind on stuff.

What could be bad about it? You watch movies and TV shows for free.

I haven't used it on xbox but I have been using it online for a long time.

Hulu has some current shows for free, but they are usually only a few select episodes as they have deals with the networks to allow the content to be free on the network's website first, etc.

Hulu Plus allows for full seasons of some of the more popular shows and allows for mobile viewing (iOS app, etc)

The Hulu Desktop application is a great solution for a home-built HTPC and you don't have to pay for Hulu Plus to use it.

I have to say that I'm pretty happy with it, plus it has Afro-Samurai and Initial-D, what more could you want?

I like Hulu. Got into a few shows that I wouldn't have otherwise like 'Spy' and "Fringe'. Its great for cartoon watchers. I'd like more science shows and less Korean soap operas.

Would never pay for it.

I have a Hulu+ subscription for $8 a month. It does get you a lot more shows and more back episodes with longer viewing periods. After having it for 8 months now I'm pretty sure I'm going to cancel it soon.

The worst thing for me is that even with a + subscription Hulu still doesn't have the rights to broadcast all of it's content on a mobile or streaming device (such as a iPhone or a Roku box). The only way around this is to watch those shows from the Hulu web site. This means huddling around your computer or plugging your computer into your TV if you can.

Free Hulu is great, but as far as subscriptions go Netflix is still a better deal.

They have a lot of good old 1970s TV shows - Rockford Files, Adam-12, Emergency! to name a few.

We have the Hulu+ here. The missus and I were watching The State last night, reliving Barry and Levon. We have a PC connected to our TV via HDMI, and results are pleasant. We have a few other apps and sites to try, but the Hulu website tends to be our go-to source. They're trying lots of stuff to make ads less unpleasant, but they still feel pretty intrusive. Part of the problem is the small pool of ads - we get Geico ads over and over again.

I have one of these hooked up to my tv because I got sick of the keyboard with XBMC or listening to my XBox with PlayOn installed on the PC. Best 100 bucks I ever spent.

So far as hulu+ goes, my wife and I have it and Netflix for TV. Hulu+ keeps her going on all the current TV shows she likes to watch and Netflix supplements the movies. I haven't rented anything or paid for cable in almost 2 years and I don't miss it at all. If it isn't on either of those or one of the other Roku channels I download it, put it on a portable HDD and watch it on the TV anyway.

Hulu is a bit limited on the set top stuff because all the CBS stuff links to the CBS website and their player. Fox and NBC have most shows on it which is pretty convenient.

The major difference between Plus and regular is that some studios like Fox, will delay certain shows for up to 8 days. Plus also allows for viewing many of the older episodes and gives you access to a wider variety of shows, it still has commercials though.

first a correction... hulu plus DOES have commercials... (seems they didn't in the past but they sure do now)

we have both hulu plus and netflix streaming and use both via xbox 360...

with the newupdates on the xbox the netflix app is MUCH better and more streamlined... hulu is very clunky...

we don't get near as much use out of hulu... but it stays around so we can keep up with a few shows we enjoy and we have caught onto a few shows we'd been told to check out... so it's nice there...

if it cost much more it wouldn't stay around though.... and if it came down to it we'd keep the netflix and goto torrents for the stuff we use hulu for...

It's worth $8/mo to me just for The Daily Show. I watch about 10 or so shows on there regularly. The Xbox Hulu app is or was weird, I haven't tried it since the update. I can watch The Daily show the next morning on my PS3, the xbox is 2 days behind, probably because M$ sells episodes of the show or some such but its annoying.

so, i guess my next question is, if i was gonna ditch my cable.. would hulu be a semi decent replacement. we dont watch alot of regular channels and only really watch disney channels for our 8yr old and some of the learning channels.. such as history and discovery..

if you are looking for kids stuff netflix is better... we do both (netflix and hulu)... the 2nd TV is connected to the Wii (does netflix)

but having both is still MUCH cheaper then cable...

they both do a freebie trial... so I'd give it a shot and see what you think...

When the girlfriend and I moved out to the middle of the country a couple years ago we ditched cable mostly as a budget saving issue she has a Netflix account. Netflix is great for catching movies and full seasons of shows. We dropped the disc service when the price went up last summer, and don't really miss it that much.

Hulu is good for catching most current run shows. There are a few networks that are a bit funky on availability on Hulu. USA normally has their shows on something like a 30 day delay. Some Fox shows like House are on an 8 day delay. SyFy make you wait until the current season if finished airing and the will post up episodes. Some of those delays can be avoided by having Hulu+, but not all of them. You do have to have Hulu+ to watch on the Xbox. I tried it and for me it wasn't worth it. I just watch all my TV on my laptop.

What I do miss about not having cable is it's harder to catch racing broadcasts. No F1 or NASCAR, but ALMS and some Indycar can be watched live or on demand on the Xbox through the ESPN app and a few series are broadcast on the web.

You'll need to log in to post.
