But I'm having a damn hard time finding a thread I started a few months ago about going to NYC and what we should do/visit/etc.

I've been using google and everything, but can't remember how I titled it.

Hopefully someone who is better at the internet can find it, or make some suggestions?

We are flying out this Saturday for a week in Manhattan.

I think on Mon we are doing a food tour in Chelsea, on Tues a food tour in Greenwich, and on Wed night going to a show. Other than that, we are open.

Make sure to walk the High Line in Chelsea, and Cooper Classic Cars while you're in the Village. Classic Car Club Manhattan is pretty cool as well. I had fun in Williamsburg too, lots of good food and neat little shops on/around Bedford. There were also some pretty sublime food trucks last time I visited.

There are tons of things to do here and you're coming at a good time of year. The weather is getting mild but not warm enough to bring out the smell of stale urine that wafts in during the summer months.

Here's a list of what museums are free on what days. Most of the ones run by the city are pay what you wish so they will let you in for less than the advertised suggested price. http://freemuseumday.org/nyc.html

There have been a lot of good ideas posted. A couple of things to keep in mind. If you were planning on going to see South St Seaport they are still closed due to storm damage, as are a number of places in Coney Island and the Statue of Liberty. The parks department will still take you money and give you a cavity search but then they will circle the island and stop off at Ellis Island. You can get a good veiw of the Statue for free from the Staten Island Ferry. Plan on the round trip taking about an hour. On a nice day you can stand outside and get a nice view of lower Manhattan.

For cheap food during the day you will be tempted to hit McDonald's Burger king ect. Avoid it if you can. Their prices are higher here than most places so for the about the same price you could have eaten better. $1 a slice pizza places have been popping up in most neighborhoods and most are pretty good.

While most of the stores in the new improved family friendly Times Square are just higher priced versions of the ones you have in malls everywhere else The lights at night are worth taking a trip up. When the family drags me out to play tourist that is usually our last stop so we get there after dark. After 8pm or so the vehicle traffic dies down but there are still plenty of people.

I never thought about it before but atleast once a day someone asks me for a bathroom. They can be hard to find or look like crime scenes in many places. The best places to ask are in hotels or big department stores like Macy's.
