So SWMBO has picked up smoking again, thanks to the lovely stresses of life. I don't like that she smokes because its bad for her health, costs money, and she stinks of smoke. I would like to get her an E-cig soon to help her get off of real cigs, but I'm not sure which one to get.
She said she has tried the liquid filled one and the little cig look-a-like ones, but preferred the liquid ones. A little web searching shows many different brands and styles. Does anyone here have any recommendations as to what to get? I'm not a smoker, so I have no idea what to look for. Thanks!
Look for a "vape" shop in your area. These are usually run by folks who are really into it and not just for a smoking cessation fix. They will have tons of different devices and lots of different fluid flavors with options for 0 to very strong nicotine levels. They let you try out pretty much everything before you buy.... at least they do here.
Strange stuff. Kind of a new "lifestyle" thing. They seem to take it very seriously. The GF got a whole setup with chargers, heating elements and fluid for much less than I see the Blu kits at convenience stores

Vape dudes are nuts and they're popping up everywhere- that's about what I know.
Vaping seems a lot like hooka, but with no actual tobacco and way easier. I have zero first hand knowldge of ecigs or vaping but I have a couple friends that are and like ditchdigger said, finding a shop is the best way to go it seems. The stuff there is way more customizable and easy to tailor to a person than a Blu starter kit, or so I've been told.
I don't think we'll understand the health ramifications of vaping for quite some time. The people who say it's fine and a perfectly healthy habit remind me of those "doctors prefer Marlboro" ads from long ago.
I agree, quit smoking.
I don't like the concept personally, inhaling less carcinogenic smoke is great and all, but who knows what we've replaced that with with whatever this vapor is flavored/scented with. Similar to all this "healthy" highly processed food, artificial sweeteners that kill dogs, etc. Not that most cigarettes aren't highly processed and full of additives, but we at least know most of the exact health ramifications of that(and you can keep away from the additives to some degree).
The other thing is you can hit those e cigs constantly, seems to me such a system is not conclusive to helping you stop an addiction, the opposite really.
Quitting isn't my issue. I'm 32 and have never tried smoking, not once. To be honest, she's soft a soft willed person, and with the current problems she's facing, smoking is like her comfort zone when she gets overwhelmed. So quitting outright is something I don't see her doing now. E-cigs could be a big help of her getting that comfort, and me not having to put up with smell of real cigs.
They look like crack pipes. From the future.
I know a guy who uses one.
His reasoning is "I get to keep my nicotine addiction but I don't stink and I won't get lung cancer"
In reply to Trans_Maro:
Yeah, 80% of people that have one I see sucking on it WAY more than if they were smoking actual cigarettes.
a lot of people see them as a free ticket to act like shiny happy people in public areas where smoking isn't allowed..

There is a commercial on one of the radio stations in Grand Theft Auto V that starts off sounding like a vaping commercial... but they aren't talking about nicotine. It quickly becomes apparent that they're talking about Crack and Meth. It's hilarious.

The REALLY hipster vape dudes talk about what different brands of vape works better, what sorta juice they like, what flavor, what they use for coils and wicking materials, how much this vs. that juice mix, what mods, whether it's a genuine this kinda thing or a clone- it's bizarre man, it's worse than real vs. ebay car parts.
Also (and I know this doesn't apply to your wife, trust me I get it, stress smoking is something I was only recently able to conquer... and that took serious life adjustments) just berkeleying quit. All I see with a lot of those big chimney stupid looking things are dudes that are A- too much of a puss to either smoke or flat out quit- or B- people that think is trendy and actually GET a nicotene addiction from the damn things. I'll be honest, I don't see how puffing on glycerine and vegetable oil can be as satisfying as taking a solid pull on a Marlboro red (or whatever).
The ads for the local vape shop are so hipster sounding that I want to throw up. Almost thirty years ago, I quit smoking the old fashioned way: cold turkey.
There's a side problem with it if kids are around: the stuff smells and tastes good so there has been a sharp jump in the number of kids brought to ERs with nicotine poisoning from drinking the stuff. http://www.kjrh.com/news/local-news/making-a-difference/nicotine-poisonings-from-e-cigarette-solutions-are-up-dramatically-especially-among-young-children
Drinking it? Serves em' right.
maybe it's time to put Mr Yuck stickers on this stuff.. it kept my generation from drinking too much bleech:
We found a vape shop close to our town that we are going to check out this week. Maybe those dirty hippies can help her find something she likes.

For my wife, it's as much a way to destress without chewing on her fingers or eating. And since hers don't have nicotine, it's not going to be bad for her. It's not smoke.
And there's a lot of information about the second hand "smoke" (which is also not smoke): there's nothing in it but water vapor. It's simply impossible for there to BE anything in it other than water vapor. So those of you worrying about it at restaurants and the like are just being shiny happy people, yourselves. It's no worse than people breathing.
TL:DR - no nicotine detectable in the air for ecigs.
During the smoking session, 19 cigarettes were smoked, administering 11.4mg of nicotine
(according to cigarette pack information). During the e-CIG session, 1.6 ml of liquid was consumed, administering 17.6mg of nicotine. During the smoking session we found: TOC=6.66mg/m3, toluene=1.7 μg/m3,
xylene=0.2 μg/m3, CO=11 mg/m3, nicotine=34 μg/m3, acrolein=20 μg/ml and PAH=9.4 μg/m3. No glycerin,
propylene glycol and NOx were detected after the smoking session.
During the e-CIG session we found: TOC=0.73 mg/m3 and glycerin=72 μg/m3. No toluene, xylene, CO, NOx, nicotine, acrolein or PAHs were detected on room air during the e-CIG session.

I was motivated to quit smoking 10/ 17 by having a heart attack. Strongly motivated. Several of the guys I work with have vape cigs and have used them to quit cigarettes, so I gave it a try. So far so good. Not going to say that the desire for a real cig is totally gone, but I can deal with it. Wife still smokes, but that does not other me. There are a bunch of vape stores here, and new ones opening daily. Crack of the future?? Don't know.
lots of FUD in this thread. In my case as a 20 year smoker I have finally been able to quit for 6 months. I no longer crave the morning cigarette and that happened after the first couple of days. The juice tastes terrible so very small chance that anyone would drink enough to harm themselves. It is also easy to reduce the nicotine content of the juice very early into the process.
The research is coming and obviously I do not recommend starting vaping for a non smoker but the FUD on this stuff is incredible.
IT term. Fear Uncertainty and Doubt. Like those that have heard that the juice tastes great and that people will die from drinking it. Uncertainty in that we don't know what's in the juice even though the good juice has a label with the ingredients.
Being cautious with this is good, but for those of use who had trouble quitting with all of the accepted tools, this vaping has been the only thing that has worked.
