stopping here for now, I will probably break everything down by age for basics and collectibles separately over the weekend. I really only collect three or four specific castings so those will get pulled for display and everything else will get noted.
Do you guys want me to list doubles?
Found my first super treasure hunt in the wild this past week, dreams do come true.

Apologies if you've already listed this somewhere, but what genre do you actively collect? If there's any JDM/Euro, then I would absolutely love it if you could list doubles.
I'm kind of a spaz so if there's a casting I love, I grab between two and a dozen of them. Sometimes for customs, sometimes for pals that also collect, and sometimes I put together little collections for friends' offspring. You'd be surprised how much these things influence the next generation of car guys.
In reply to chandler :
Holy crap, that must be several thousand cars!
I collect every genre, every single one...
this is fun, these are early 2000's first editions and finding and sorting the variations is great
then I popped open this shoebox and just started laughing....
the antifreeze mustang trades in the $350 range and the spectaflame black civic usually $200 ish when they rarely come up for sale. These were the final mix, and never really hit the stores. I was buying them all at that point so I have four of the mustangs which should help with the Dakota Convertible rebuild haha. The Silverado also came out of this case but I only ever found one of those.
A box of drag buses, second one ive come across
and I used to have my basement decorated in dodges; vipers, trucks, dragsters, snake and mongoose etc... these are a couple odd special editions.
the flamed 1500 "trailer edition" was made for Fred Blood who traveled to NHRA and NASCAR races selling those special editions, I met him way back when he was a professional BMX rider and he now owns One Stop Diecast which is a good source for most of the current die casts.
In reply to chandler :
These are fun! I like the history lessons.
In reply to chandler :
I was just looking at my collection and noticed I one drag bus, it's not even a RLC
I was thinking of you with all the ghias and bugs from the old classics sets.
In reply to chandler :
Oh nice, sounds odd but I don't have any Ghias.
Just for you:
Back in the 90's hot wheels made small runs for car clubs and stores. These were for Midwest AirCooled Enthusiasts back in 2002 or 2003. Not sure how many were made but I'm guessing 1500 or so of each version. There is another that I don't have..
and some DB laid out
this was the heaviest hot wheel for a looong time then the Blown Delivery came along
In reply to chandler :
I second what Jav said. Hot Wheels history lessons are great.
Most of my history and collection starts in 96, I was 17 and found a Treasure Hunt that was awesome so since I had been buying them since I had pocket money I started actually buying them. I really went nuts in about 04, there were 100 new releases that year - the horrible Fatbax and whatnot but man were there some awesome real cars as well. After that it was pretty well a compulsion to get EVERY version of every new model.
The other thing I really like are convention cars, there are two major conventions each year - the nationals somewhere east of the Mississippi and the convention in LA. At each one there are between 2 and 6 Hot Wheels made souvenir cars as well as a multitude of Code 3 (well made customs)
Here is a sampling of Dinner cars from the conventions, essentially you pay extra for a nice meal with a designer or modeler or whatever and get a car for your $. I've never gone but I did try to get all the dinner cars.
so, sticker cars are usually given to the people who actually anted up for a ticket; a couple hundred of those, then there are 1200 usually made total.
this A100 from the nationals is a favorite of mine, that'll be another post though...
here are some more sticker dinner cars from the years.
the elwoody from 1999 is autographed by Larry wood who was the Hot Wheels designer for ever . That's a cool piece.
This is a cool set from the Redline Club in I think 2008, these were made to order. As you purchased from the club during the year you would accrue points and at the end of the year you could order however many of these you had points for. The 36 ford had 4768, the Cord had 4041, the Mach 1 had 6962 and the Corvette had 4981. What's cool is that the artwork lines up to make a picture.
pretty sure I have a couple of these sets
Here are a few more Special Editions, the first pic is more car show cars, sold as souvenirs by either the promoting club or the venue.
the next is a hodgepodge of Special Edition pieces; I'm not sure where the prnelli Jones piece would have been bought but the Fiat mooneyes car was from Fullgrid also, the cord is from the ACD museum and the 32 Ford is from a smaller east coast diecast convention in Connecticut in 2001
That's exactly what I was hopping. Keep it coming. History and trivia are awesome.
Cracked open a 72 count case and found:
Treasure Hunts. At one point I hit ten-twelve stores a day and this is what I was looking for. I frequented some trade forums and people would trade good stuff for these so I bought what I found. Obviously I went overboard...
and another one
before the confusion of regular and super treasure hunts there were.. treasure hunts. 12 per year mixed at about 1 per 8 cases in my estimation. These are 96-2005 so I only have about half of the available ones.
I had been trading for what I didn't have when the trading forum I was using closed up. The one that started it going for me back in 96
Auburn 852, not in very good shape though.
In addition to my complete set of vintage racers I was stoked to open this box
I also found my Jammer cases with the couple BRE 510 I had opened to customize....
Weren't those the BRE 510s that were/are selling for stupid money on Ebay?

Yes it is. Dakota convertible money...
In reply to chandler :
I need the Smokey Yunick and Mark Donohue Camaros for my Trans Am collection!
Happy to trade or sell them to you, I have a complete set in one of these boxes
