GRM Project Cars 2 - Series 10: 10 for 10

What did you end up getting?

I think he just got a new wheel to put on his original wheel base, but, yeah, which exact wheel did he get?

We need to start a new series before he gets used to it so we have more of a chance.

So, for the next series, there are a couple options:

1. Formula Renault
2. LMP + GTE mixed class in public rooms
3. Let Air and Dean decide

I figure that we can test 1 and 2 this Wednesday.

Just a replacement wheel rim from Fanatec. They don't sell the standard PS4 one separately so I bought the only PS4 compatible one they had in stock (and apparently the last one they had), which is meant to be a replica of an actual GT2 steering wheel.  I like it, but the buttons are placed around the outside of the wheel so changing settings while driving is extremely difficult without taking your hands off the wheel.  It was a bit more than I really wanted to spend but the wife pointed out that this really is my only hobby, and I also realized that I've skipped 4 track events so far this year so there was some extra room in the budget.

Which class(es) of LMP?

 I think in a public room I'd be a bit scared to take a GTE car expecting that randoms would take LMPs but not know how to drive them and kill me. Perhaps LMP2 would be better than LMP1?

EDIT: Testing out LMP2 &3 cars now. LMP3 only a little faster than GTE. Sauce in a GTE could beat average public lobby random in a LMP3. LMP2 a little faster still. The different LMP2 cars feel quite different with default loose tunes, but they seem like they are in the same ballpark as each other. I didn't mess with LMP1 or LMP1-2016. 

So last night was interesting.  That guy in the BMW restored my faith in humanity, and let me know that I don't really want unregulated public rooms.

I really enjoyed the FR35.  It drove really well, used tires and gas enough to make for the potential of strategy.  I think it would be a good series.

The LMP+GTE series would be interesting as well, but I think we need enough participants to make it interesting.  So, we would need either Dean's favorite AI or humans.  If we want humans, we would need someone other than me to host so we could set a level to clear out the riff raff.

PCars3 comes out 8/28.  So we can either run a long series, or try and squeeze in 2 short ones.

I was notified a few weeks ago that I was being laid off from work and have been looking for a new job. At this point I don't have a clear picture of what I'll be doing between now and the end of August, but hopefully it includes finding a new job and more than likely relocating, so I really have no idea what availability I'll have for whatever we run. At this point, I think I will be on next Wednesday, but after that I just don't know. I've had a couple of interviews and have applied for lots of things in lots of places. Could be Waynesboro, GA, Charlotte, Arizona, or who knows where else. About the only location I have not found something to apply for is locally.

I'd love to do a FR35 series as well. Fast, but not really that hard to drive. Tires won't last 60 minutes. Refueling concurrent with tire changes. Too bad they don't have hards and softs to add more strategy choices. I still don't think they have DRS no matter what Air says. (It would be cool if they did though, but not sure how it would work in terms of DRS zones or just available wherever/whenever.)

For the past 9 years I designed and/or implemented modifications to nuclear power plants as an electrical engineer. More than likely will end up doing similar work for a different company. Lots of potential leads at this point, but no actual job offers yet. I have about 3 weeks of vacation time to use starting next week. 
 

Not too worried about finding something, but it will almost certainly involve relocating.

Good luck man.  Unfortunately my company has a severe hiring freeze or I'd give a recommendation, but if things work out such that you're in Charlotte we will need to grab a beer sometime.

HF always seems to be hiring.  I am not sure HF creating nuclear powered anything would be well accepted by the general public though...

Any suggestions for this week? 

I am always up for something old or funky.  I did see a video of some classic Indy cars that looked pretty entertaining (definitely not just smash it and turn).  It might get a bit dull going in circles, but might be worth a try.

Here are few suggestions I pulled out of a quick search (I will try to do some quick testing on controller on these later today):

• Porsche 935/80 @ Road America
• Caterham 620R @ Knockhill
• Old Indy car with 2 gears at Watkins Glenn
• Rallycross Lite on pretty much any Rallycross track is a blast. The full-on Rallycross cars can be fun too, but they're more of a handful and can be frustrating at times.
• Ford Escort RS1600 (Road G) at Knockhill

How about a public room with FR3.5? Maybe set the room up with a short pracice (15 mins?) and then a shortish race (maybe 15-20 mins) and see if folks join and whether or not they add value or make a mess.

Can confirm that the Caterham and Escort are great fun at Knockhill.  The Caterham being a more high speed version of course.

Might be a bit "interesting" in an open room.

Last night was fun however it was so tired!!!  I will look around and see about picking rather a couple series and or specific cars for next week. 

I continue to love the FR35, the Caterham wasn't terrible once I got the hang of the hood cam perspective. I hated the old Indy Cars.

I've thought about it, I don't think I want to do a pot luck series where we change cars every week. I would prefer to get to know a car this go round.  Maybe we can draw for a class of cars, then if they aren't balanced we can all drive the same one.  We can still draw the class and tracks from a hat.

So I pulled out my mini pc and wired it up to my plasma TV and it is bloody spectacular. I am adding a bunch of the games Air notes in the other thread. But I am not adding PC2. I can then try stuff out with my driving rig attached to the PC. 
 

The next thing will be setting up the sound and making my gaming headset work with the pc and keeping the sound to the headset and not out of theTV. 
 

But tonight I am watching YouTube on the plasma and it is much better than I expected. 

My Playstation account was hacked for the second time in 9 months.  Over $200 in games purchased overnight last night.  Shutting the account down.
