I figured I'll show you what it looks like for me. I don't know how to do a fancy screen grab thing so I went all neanderthal and took a picture of my TV.
Touching the screen for scale.
This would have been so much better as a nutscape.

LMFAO

Well I'll be, there really is a website for everything.
PS Thanks Stamps, I did everything except click on my avatar and scroll to the bottom of the page.
I've noticed another thing which is a little annoying to me... ... it seems
that emoji are forcing line breaks that aren't in the original
post
even if that line is only one word and one emoji
so that they're isolated on their own line. I wonder how two emoji in a row are treated?
In reply to sleepyhead :
I noticed before the new format that if I go back and edit my posts, it forces the emoji to their own line/ inserts a new line where there was previously not one before the edit. Testing...
edit now they each get their own line right off the bat. Interesting.
Make it go away !!!! Please.
I'm sure this looks great on a phone. Well, maybe not great, but better. Maybe better. But man, it looks like ass on a PC. Maybe a "feature" to reduce the font size? Or otherwise put more than 4 post headings on a page?
The extra newlines for emoji when quoting (and possibly editing) is not a new problem. That happened previously too. Them getting their own line when the post is first created is new, however.
I noticed that the subscribe button is no longer a heart but an eye, makes sense for "watching" a thread. Can we move those buttons and the Vote thread up buttons back to the bottom of the page? That way we don't have to scroll all the way back to the top to vote a thread up, share it or watch it.
Thanks for all the hard work you guys (and the devs) are putting in to the remodel!
Gosh, I hope that they figure out how to condense content soon. As of now, I don't really want to use the forum.
Not sure if this was covered earlier but... seems the date a thread was started is no longer included in the info visible before entering the thread (i.e. latest posts, whatever subforum, etc.).

Ohh! Nice catch! I knew something else about that list was bugging me.
So far this seems like a lateral move, at best.
Here's hoping tweaks are inbound in the very near future.

Nope, no better on a phone. Well at least not on mine, I hate mobile sites at the best of times and always try and opt for desk top versions of possible.
Whilst this isn't the worst forum overhaul I've seen, I'm not sure it's an improvement.
I really hope any of the less than positive feedback that's come up as a result of this isn't taken to heart as it has been in other forums. Sometimes it seems as if negative feed back on forum changes is taken almost as badly as "your baby is ugly!"
a few other thoughts...
one of the challenges with making a "return" be a carriage line instead of line break, afaik, means that line breaks are impossible to input with a tablet (at least I haven't figured out how to yet on my older iPad's softkeypad.... feel free to inform me of my ignorance)... whereas I can work around it with a "shift+enter" on a desktop. I realize this is a trade-off, and I understand why this was done... just saying it out loud so that it's obvious (or my ignorance is).
reading through mazdeuce's COE thread really imparts how this design change (and the update to a wider main column) will allow images to really excel on this forum, since they're no longer constrained within two nested spaces that made up the old forum. I don't know if that was a part of the design priorities; but I appreciate the current result/effect.
hopefully all the staff involved in the update appreciates our criticism are mainly focused around two things: Keeping the board functioning for some of the use cases that aren't obvious (i.e. people, and perhaps especially on this forum, surf differently than seems generally acknowledged... appreciating being able to "see" a lot of information at a glance and then drill down as time/necessity allows). Also, unlike say... Google/YouTube's redesign's where we're allowed to send feedback via some form into their ether's... we realize feedback given here will actually be read and considered, and is much more likely to be actioned. So we have different incentive to be loud squeaky wheels.
Is there any way at all to change the dang font to something that is sans serif? Seriously, serif fonts are for actual printed medium, not computer screens.
I see my signature down there is nice and without serif. Why is the main body text serif?
Issue with the i phone. The scroll thing on the right side of the screen of safari that tells you where you are on a page is the exact same color of the forums background color making it invisible. Ad in the big fonts that make each page seem twice as long and this becomes annoying.
Should the save button be re named to post?
Looks better on my tablet than my phone, but unfortunately I'm on my phone far more often than my tablet.
So, here is this awesome upgrade on my phone today. This is latest topics before I start the infinite scrolling.
Folks using Chrome can use the something like the Zoom Text Only extension to change the size of just the text as displayed on the page. Seems to help somewhat.
Oh man, what happened?? There are a few things that might have gotten better, but I can't tell because I have to scroll so far to see anything. It's hard enough to read that I don't really expect to be spending much time reading anything here until there's an improvement, because the scrolling has proven to be great at giving me a headache. :/
- Giant fonts, so lots of scrolling that makes it difficult to read quickly or figure out what thread you're after/induces headaches
- Significant increase in space between posts further means that even on a relatively large screen, I only see ~3 posts at a time, tops
- There was previously a clear delineation between posts, thread titles, etc, so that it was easy to differentiate between what was part of the conversation, and what isn't. It all kind of runs together now, so you have to work a bit harder to follow the conversation. This would probably be as easy as darkening the lines separating the posts or something like that.
That being said, I do like that there are real input options like bullets and numbering and a few other things, where previously you had to know what the tricks were to get the formatting to work. Youtube/photo embed tools also seem to be an improvement.
Is there not a call tag from the browser so you can have a site optimized for mobile viewers, and one optimized for PC viewers?
Well I know there is, why isn't it being used?
I must say that Im honestly surprised by several of you members. If some forum display edits is all it takes to make you want to leave, then Im not sure if Im happy or sad that youre gone. I know I certainly dont visit a site because it makes me happy to look at it. The content and people portion of the signal:noise ratio of this board is BY FAR the reason I visit. Sure, I am used to Vbulletin forums - there are some good things about them - theyre familiar, they have good functionality, they fit screen formatting well. But I also recognize the drawbacks in terms of cost and control, and (from someone who is admittedly not a forum admin), I cant say I blame GRM for not wanting to fall down that hole.
Also, IIRC, if GRM were to go to a VB forum software, the current content would not follow. Everyone's post hierarchy and post count would be reset.
I kinda think everyone needs to lighten up a bit. Constructive criticism is typically welcome. Bellyaching like a tantrum throwing 3 year old because they want cake for dinner is...well...not.
