I'm expecting a hybrid, and that's not a bad thing.

I'm thinking Kei-class box van that maximizes the amount of interior room you can get within the width and length limits.

You're actually probably more right than I am. In hindsight they will wait at least a year before announcing the new generation because they do not want to steal the thunder from the new Z car.

Given how the GTR has generally been the polar opposite of "simplify and add lightness", that is an interesting idea.
The most likely idea seems to be a face-lift and power bump like what they did with the Z car. The Skyline has been based on sharing a lot of parts with a volume-produced platform, and I don't see Nissan, being strapped for cash, coming out with anything new when it comes to platforms.
The only possible exception I could see would be if Nissan throws out a really unexpected curveball, and comes out with a GTR on the Nissan/Renault CMF-D platform, having it share platforms with the Infiniti QX50, Renault Talisman, and current Sentra. But a Sentra-based GTR seems like it would be about as popular as a naturally aspirated WRX.

You nailed my thought process with regards to being the polar opposite of simplify and add lightness. My other thoughts regarding that is the twin turbo V6 does not have the peaky laggy nature of a lot of high horsepower forced induction vehicles and torque vectoring all-wheel drive putting the power to wear it best benefits traction and handling is very easily done with electric motors. I'm confident that this is the direction that future GTRs will be going much sooner rather than later.

"Final Edition" is what I'm thinking as well.
The next GT-R I'm predicting something like a cheaper version of the NSX with electric drive at one end. This was also predicted in the early 2000s when Nissan had a Micra or March that had an electric rear axle for taking off at low speed in snow.
I like the idea of a KERS enabled hybrid twin turbo monster personally. Complexity is to be expected in the GTR recipe.

Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. today unveiled the new Japan-market GT-R. The model line-up includes two limited grades, the GT-R Premium Edition T-spec and GT-R Track Edition Engineered by NISMO T-spec. All are scheduled to go on sale in the second half of October.
The two T-spec limited editions are specially equipped with exclusive carbon ceramic brakes, a carbon-fiber rear spoiler, an exclusive engine cover, and an exclusive badge for front and rear. A total of 100 units of the limited-edition models are planned for sale, with successful purchasers selected by lot.
Two new body colors, Midnight Purple and Millennium Jade, have been added to the T-spec options. Midnight Purple is an advanced version of the color used on previous generations of GT-Rs and is inspired by color-shifting of the aurora borealis. Millennium Jade exudes sophistication and conveys a quiet, yet powerful presence.
The name T-spec represents the GT-R’s philosophy of leading and shaping the times and is inspired by the words trend and traction. As a trend maker, the GT-R is created to always be ahead of the times, and the car’s ability to drive with robust grip — a key characteristic engineers have always worked hard on — make it a traction master.
The Nissan GT-R Premium Edition T-spec also has an exclusive interior design, Rays forged alloy wheels (bronze), and suspension that takes advantage of weight reductions below the springs. An expanded wheel-rim width has increased tire rigidity, enabling smooth and sensitive handling.
Developed with a focus on enhanced driving performance, the GT-R Track Edition engineered by NISMO T-spec is specially equipped with an exclusive carbon-fiber roof and trunk lid. GT-R Track Edition engineered by NISMO is a grade based on the standard model enhanced with NISMO technology.
The Premium Edition T-spec starts at 15,904,900 Yen (about $144,762), with the Track Edition Engineered by NISMO priced at 17,881,600 Yen (about $162,754).

And now for my opinion:
Perhaps not the groundbreaking new GT-R we were hoping for, but I'm happy to see Millennium Jade and Midnight Purple making a return (two of some of the most iconic colors ever offered on a car).
Also, I feel like this is pretty par for the course for Japanese carmakers, releasing limited-edition models that offer little more than special paint jobs–like the GT 86 Hakone Edition, 300 ZX Shiro Edition and a good number of older Miatas to name a few.
"As a trend maker, the GT-R is created to always be ahead of the times" oh I just can't stop laughing at this statement. Your car is over ten years old, considered "slow" by today's standards, and is simply mucking up the coat tails of its predecessors.

FYI 300ZX Shiro edition wasn't just a color change. Completely different suspension,no digital dash and lots of electronics removed, Recaros, vlsd. At least they gave you a lot more of what you want instead of some of the newer nismo models with just color matched accent trim BS.

GTRs AWD traction for the streets and big power has been what has drawn people to them (the last 30 years at least).Even heavy and fully loaded inside they are super fast. AWD is the Pandora's box of drivetrains for GTRs. it distinguished itself as that being a hallmark feature over Supra's, 300zxs , etc in they heyday where it really cemented it's legacy.
Also how much would realistically be saved with fewer bells and whistles and RWD? $20k? So it's $95k instead of $115k. Do people buying $100k cars want to save on halogens instead of HIDs, no sun roof, etc? I'm thinking they want all the GTR myth embodies or nothing.
Along the same vein, how many 4 cylinder Supra's have sold? (I have no idea) Me personally for that price difference, if I wanted a Supra or a GTR I'd want the real deal top of the line version.

I'm not let down by this, because this is exactly what I expected of Nissan. They've been doing the same thing for the past 6 or 7 years with the GT-R, why expect them to change now?
