Man I wish I didn't click that link! I'm trying to not go down the rabbit hole with these builds, but I don't know if I'll be able to resist. The Wynn's colors are awesome, and then I saw a decal kit for the Castrol livery they ran last year.....tempting for sure!
There's even a Wynns decal kit for the AMG GT3. Damn you enablers! Hahaha!!!
Yeah, I have to be careful when I go to that site. Too many cool things.
BTW, Splash Paints in the US also sells their own Wynn's Purple Pearl if you can't get the Zero Paint. I've used both brands and they're pretty much the same. Splash sells a package of all 3 colors plus decals for that AMG GT3: Another link you probably don’t want to click on
Yes, this whole thing is a big deep rabbit hole, much to my wife's chagrin.

That AMX kit is looking pretty hopeless. You should send it to me so it won't haunt you anymore.
Gunchsta can that Revell Fairlane be built stock? Or at least body stock (no teardrop hood)?
I've restored worse. I am sitting on an unreasonably large AMC model collection though...
In reply to BenB (Forum Supporter) :
Yeah, probably shouldn't have clicked that one either!

I'm in, sounds fun!
Now does anyone know where to find a scale LS motor?
In reply to carczar_84 :
I should start 3d printing them like crazy!
In reply to slowbird :
I am up for the engine swap. I have 2 in mind.

I would have never guessed.

Engine progress! Both are OHV, V-shaped, and supercharged, but have little else in common. The 351 with Vortech centrifugal blower makes more than double the horsepower of the M90-equipped V6.
Both engines had pulley problems. The plastic on the Cougar kit is quite brittle for some reason, and I snapped both the pulley pieces despite trying to be careful. (The exhaust already broke in two places also.) Super glue to the rescue.
The Saleen gave me a different problem. These two pieces weren't lining up right. I looked at reference pictures and determined the bottom part was somehow designed incorrectly. Both sides of the mating point were outward bumps instead of one side being recessed. So I cut them both flat and fixed that.
Perfect!
Here they are, ready to go in their respective cars. I was looking for new interesting colors to paint oil filters, and I learned that Royal Purple has their own line of them in (naturally) solid purple. I also discovered that a whole lot of brands are just black with a label on them. (Boring!) I was tired of white for Motorcraft and orange for Fram, though. So purple it is on the 351, while the V6 got a black filter with blue smudge to try and emulate uhh AMSoil I think it was.
Rest of the car update:
Here's pretty much every piece to the car outside of the basic body, interior tub, and chassis plate. JoHan made dealer promos mostly and a lot of their kids are very simple like this.
First, a surprise! This is actually made from three different kits! The body was red plastic, but the bumpers and shifter are blue and the steering wheel is green. Okay, no biggie, it's still the same kit though it makes me feel better about possibly swapping the engine out for the more correct gen1.5 that Johan updated to in later releases.
For now I've clearanced the exhaust manifolds so the through-block axle will fit, dressed the Hurst Dazzler mags and did a black wash, and painted the plates and marker lights.
On the body side, the primer revealed more work to be done, so I sanded again. I have no idea if this is going to work, but I'm not giving up yet.

You can do it!

I'm in. Here's my kit:
Tempted to do a replica of my 1:1 scale '91 MR2, but I think I'm going to build it a little different. This kit doesn't come with the pre '93 spoiler.
Started on mine last night, ended up switching gears yet again because I have an idea for the Fairlane in the 'engine swap challenge' so that got put on the backburner. The AMT 66 Nova will be the victim this time; this is the kit I stole the Cragars out of for the Corvette so it seems appropriate to build it next. Interestingly enough it's missing another set of wheels, the directions, and it appears to have an extra engine (on top of the display engine the kit comes with). I'm not sure what's been happening in that box.
Lots to clean up but as I remember this kit goes together pretty well.

The 1969 Chevelle is FUBAR. I gave it a Viking funeral last night. That's all you will get out of me.

Hopefully I will get mine started today.
Well, I only missed the deadline for the last group build by a few days this time. I made the mistake of trying to lower it and wound up having to completely rebuild the front suspension. I think I spent less time changing out the coilovers on my 1/1 MSM! Next we'll see if I can build the Tamiya ND Miata in a week. Out of the box rules will keep me from messing with it. I'll post a pic of the kit when I dig it out of the stash.

WoW!! That thing is Beautiful!
BenB, that looks awesome man, great job!
So this question is more for the next round, but what is a good source for engines, exhausts, etc.? I don't have a spare pile of model parts laying around, but I have a model of a car that is begging for an engine swap in real life.
In reply to carczar_84 :
Models that come with extras. You build enough and you end up with a pretty good size spares box. I have a dozen or so engines, what are you searching for?
Alternatively, buying a lot of model parts on eBay is a great way to get an instant spares box.
Hilariously a nearly identical built up with box and instructions just showed up on eBay!

From a person completely outside the model building community, this blows my mind (in a good way)...people selling (and buying) individual model parts on eBay to modify kits, and you guys...engine swaps in models?!? just WOW! I can't even find the time to get my real, stock rallycross (hopefully) Neon running.
In reply to Javelin (Forum Supporter) :
I started digging around ebay for some parts, that might be a good option.
I've got a Tamiya BRZ kit that I'd like to drop something else in, maybe the real life easy button LS. I did see some 3-d printed engines online so maybe that is the best bet.
In reply to carczar_84 :
What kind of engine you looking for? Big V8, tuned V6, turbo 4?
I would probably search ebay for "built" versions and see what junk heaps pop up for cheap, then pull the engines out of those. Or you can find some people selling just engines by themselves, though not always at a good price.Revell had some "Parts Packs" with custom engines. Or people will pull them out of kits and sell them.

There's also some small outfits making resin engines:
